Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in laboratory science or related field (Chemical or Biological Science)
  • 5+ years technical experience in a related laboratory setting
  • Leadership or management experience
  • Qualified by CLIA/CAP standards, minimally as a general supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Department Leadership - Provide technical leadership of assigned areas to ensure departmental patient care goals are met. Develop goals, standards, policies, procedures and practices. Implement and monitor indicators of quality and laboratory success metrics. May represent CCHMC at state, local, and national levels through involvement in professional associations and/or organizations.
  • Lab Operations - Contributes to the effective management of the clinical laboratories. Establishes and meets annual goals that are developed to assist the Laboratory in achieving its mission and vision. Supports innovation through new test development and implementation of new testing platforms. Attends and actively participates in assigned department and/or hospital committees. Interacts effectively with superiors, subordinates and peers to accomplish department goals. Manage and provide technical assistance for compliance with above plans. Accepts and completes special assignments relating to general laboratory management and administration as required. Recommends approaches for improvement activities and implements new processes. Collects and measures data, develop processes based on performance and communicate results. Assists in planning, designing, measuring, assessing, and improving clinical laboratory services.
  • Personnel Management & Development - Maintain personal development plan and provide development and coaching for supervisors and other members of the team. Participate in the development and monitoring of an effective staffing and retention strategy. Partner with site of care leadership to ensure effective performance management of direct reports; establish and maintain procedures for orientation of new employees; mentor and provide learning and development opportunities for direct reports; collaborate with human resources business partners and department leadership to meet the division's talent management goals; support organizational programs that impact employees and ensure communication, comprehension, and adherence to all human resources policies and related legal and/or compliance requirements.
  • Regulatory & Compliance - Maintains compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, such as CAP, TJC, HIPAA, CMS, and/or other accreditation standards. Design and/or implement programs, policies, and/or procedures to ensure compliance. Track laws and regulations that might affect policies and procedures. May prepare compliance reports and communicate results as necessary. Understand and comply with applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and/or accreditation standards. Ensure safety standards are maintained in the workspace and enforces compliance to infection prevention and safe work practices.
  • Budget Management - Collaborate in the preparation, coordination, and evaluation of the annual fiscal operating budget and capital equipment budget, possibly including evaluating new sources of revenue and recommending cost reductions and efficiencies. May monitor or manage accounts. May coordinate payments, interactions, and/or paperwork.
  • Quality Assurance - Manage the quality of testing processes within the laboratory section through audits and monitors indicative of high-quality processes and systems. Identifies and leads improvement activities within and across laboratory disciplines. Provide departmental operational leadership to direct and indirect staff members in support of a CAP certified laboratory.
