Abiomed maintains a drug-free workplace. The Manager, Instructional Design is responsible for ensuring the successful development of global clinical training content for both employees and customers. The focus is on creating learning experiences and materials that are engaging, impactful, relevant and compliant, and that meet the clinical and commercial training needs of our global audience. This is a cross-functional position that requires collaboration across multiple departments. This person will work collaboratively with Educational Resources, Clinical Training, Commercial Marketing, and Digital Communications, as well as many Subject Matter Experts and global partners as needed to meet training demands. All JNJ MedTech Heart Recovery Instructional Designers will report into this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Learning & Development, or related field
  • Proven experience in instructional design, e-learning development, or related roles, with a strong portfolio of work
  • Leadership experience managing a team of instructional designers or learning specialists
  • Expertise in instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, etc.) and adult learning theories
  • Proficiency with e-learning authoring tools (Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia, etc.) and LMS platforms (Cornerstone, Docebo, NovoEd)
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across global teams
  • Innovative mindset with a passion for leveraging technology to enhance learning experiences

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Design Leadership: Lead the design and development of scalable, engaging, and effective training content for diverse global audiences, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and learner needs.
  • Team Management: Supervise and mentor a team of instructional designers, providing guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities. Serve as an example of the Training Team 5 Core Values: Grit, Curiosity, Humility, Bravery, and Gratitude
  • Collaborative Content Development: Partner with subject matter experts, global teams, and stakeholders to gather requirements, define learning objectives, and ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Learning Strategy & Innovation: Develop and implement best practices for instructional design, incorporating emerging trends, technologies, and adult learning principles.
  • Project Management: Oversee multiple instructional design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery, quality standards, and alignment with business priorities.
  • Technology & Tools: Leverage Learning Management Systems (LMS), authoring tools, and other digital platforms to design, develop, and deploy learning solutions.
  • Evaluation & Improvement: Collaborate with teams to establish assessment strategies to measure training effectiveness, gather feedback, and continuously improve learning programs.
  • Global Alignment: Ensure instructional design strategies and content are culturally sensitive, accessible, and effective across different regions and languages.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and stakeholders on instructional design best practices and innovative learning solutions.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Ensure the team maintains comprehensive project documentation, track progress, and report on key performance indicators related to learning initiatives.
