About The Position

This role is responsible for executing the strategy set by the Director of Inflight Crew Scheduling as it relates to systems, training, and process management within the department at Alaska Airlines (AS) and Hawaiian Airlines (HA). As a people leader, the Inflight Crew Scheduling Systems & Training Manager leads and establishes priorities for the team to implement policies, test system updates, and maintain crew scheduling software. This role serves as the primary point of contact for crew management system testing and collaborates with Labor Relations to support grievance resolution and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations. Throughout all responsibilities, this position maintains a strong focus on safety and compliance, integrating safety assurance into the department’s daily operations.

Requirements

  • 5 years of airline operations, crew scheduling experience or related area.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of experience in lieu of the degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage small projects and support larger projects as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience in the development of policies and procedures for a large work group.
  • Experience in the development of effective training that can teach complex regulations and systems in the classroom and on-the-job.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new ideas to improve safety, compliance, efficiency, and cost.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and collaboratively develop alternatives for resolution.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to keep track of many moving parts and spot conflicts early.
  • Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and comfortable with public speaking.
  • Strong working knowledge of airline and inflight operations with outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of AS and HA, outside contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Strong organizational skills, confidence in decision-making, conflict management, and resiliency.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a high-pressure environment and be able to handle several projects and tasks simultaneously while delivering results.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, evenings and 8, 10, 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for Crew Scheduling and vendor meetings.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Experience with computer-based training software. Experience partnering with Union groups and Union leadership.
  • Knowledge of data analytics, analysis, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop the Inflight Crew Scheduling team by setting clear priorities around compliance, safety, and operational excellence across all scheduling functions and regulatory requirements.
  • Execute long-term strategy in partnership with the Crew Systems Manager and ITS, independently prioritizing initiatives, driving project execution and implementing communication and business-resiliency plans for crew scheduling systems with a 12 + month horizon.
  • Own decisions related to systems, processes and operational methodologies to enhance safety, compliance, efficiency, flexibility and productivity within the Inflight Crew Scheduling function, document trade-offs, risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop team members through strong performance-management practices, including regular feedback, structured development plans, clearly defined OKRs/KPIs, effective delegation of key initiatives and follow-through that builds clarity, capability and commitment.
  • Influence inflight leadership and cross-functional partners to align standards, communication, policies, and procedures, providing critical analysis and recommendations to the Director of Inflight Crew Scheduling.
  • Collaborate closely with IT Flight Crew Systems and Project Managers to ensure resource availability, prioritize product issues, and support system testing, enhancements and updates.
  • Partner with the Crew Scheduling leaders and Crew Schedulers to understand day-to-day workflows and challenges, using insights to design and deliver effective training materials.
  • Maintain strong cooperative relationships with union partners, including the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) and Clerical Office and Passenger Service Employees (COPS), representing the department in relevant company meetings and ensuring timely, accurate communication and follow-through on commitments.
