About The Position

The goal of the Infection Prevention (IP) Manager is to lead system-level efforts to drive excellence in infection prevention and control practices across designated pavilions. Through data-driven, high reliability strategies and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, this role advances quality, safety, and outcomes while ensuring compliance with evidence-based standards." The position works closely with both system and operating entities to improve quality, patient safety and clinical outcomes. The IP Manager is responsible for leading the implementation and maintenance of an effective infection prevention and control program at assigned pavilions. This position promotes high reliability in infection prevention through assessment, facilitation and prioritization of infection prevention improvement activities. This position has oversight of the infection prevention program for all departments throughout the designated pavilions. The IP Manager reviews current literature and guidelines to help establish best practices in infection prevention across the continuum of care.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree Nursing Required Or Bachelors Degree Public Health Required Or Bachelors Degree Medical Technology Required Or Masters Degree Nursing Preferred Or Masters Degree Public Health Preferred Or Masters Degree Medical Technology Preferred
  • 5+ Years Experience in infection control and prevention.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including leading groups of people and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to present clear and concisely to key stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal skills such as emotional intelligence, conflict resolution and team facilitation.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, to include proficiency in utilizing NHSN data, optimizing workflows and ensuring data integrity.
  • Expertise in leveraging advanced analytic tools to analyze trends, evaluate interventions and identify actionable insights.
  • Ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, staff and physicians.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work to address urgent infection control issues.
  • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) Required

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the Surveillance IP Manager, the System AVP of Infection Prevention, the System Medical Director of Infection Prevention. Each IP Manager will be responsible for the analysis, interpretation and implementation of prevention initiatives of specific HAI metrics demonstrating initiative to help meet system goals. (One manager will have MRSA/Cdiff, one will have SSI)
  • Provides strategic leadership, expertise and direction to a multi-disciplinary team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. Regularly provides feedback involving strategy and direction to meet established infection control goals and priorities and local support in responding to clusters, outbreaks, etc. Conducts performance reviews annually.
  • Responsible for leadership and communication with the local Pavilion including, hospital administration, Infection Prevention MD, CMO and CNO regarding current infection control issues, findings, and recommendations. Participates in establishing pavilion goals, tracking/trending data and presents data for local and system Infection Control Committee; communicates the findings and recommendations of the system Infection Control Committees to appropriate individuals, committees, and departments.
  • Partners with IP manager of Surveillance to tracks HAI rates and identify trends. Utilizes advanced analytics tools and NHSN data to identify infection trends, prioritize interventions, and share actionable insights across the system. Utilize infection data to proactively identify trends, drive targeted improvements, and support data-informed decision-making at all levels Reviews local HAI infection data identifying variances from baseline that require special attention.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to implement creative strategies to reduce risks, mitigate HAI’s and to achieve Key Performance Indicators related to areas of accountability. Collaborate with Nursing Education on the development and annual training programs for team members on infection prevention strategies with a focus on assigned HAI metric and best practices.
  • Leads the Infection Prevention response to surveys, investigations and inspections conducted by Joint Commission, IDPH, CMS or other oversight bodies for assigned pavilions. Functions as an official liaison to public health authorities relative to communicable disease reporting. Conducts investigations of clusters of infection occurring above expected levels by collaborating with appropriate IP MD to establish study case definition, period of study, and case-finding methods.
  • Collaborates with Employee health related to pavilion level exposures and with the System Emergency Preparedness Committee to ensure local pavilion readiness. Works with the Facilities, EVS, Environmental Health & Safety, Value Analysis to evaluate practices and products related to best practice infection prevention activities. In collaboration with dedicated construction IP, provides Infection prevention oversight for construction and renovation projects and collaborates with Facilities and Engineering staff to ensure compliance with regulations related to water management and industrial hygiene at local entities. Shares information with at the system level.
  • Collaborates with local SPD to ensure best practice recommendations are consistent by reviewing routine observations/audits. Shares information with at the system level. Leads system-wide policy development and standardization of practices across areas of oversight Oversees practices and systems related to hand hygiene compliance monitoring as designated pavilions. Compiles data pertaining to hand hygiene compliance and provides feedback to system leaders on compliance rates, performance improvement opportunities and best practices.
  • Leadership Development: Mentoring and development of direct reports to support succession planning and a robust infection prevention team.
