The Mainframe Systems Programming Manager manages system programming professionals and leaders and is accountable for the performance and results of the team. Decisions are guided by policies, resources, and business plan. The Leadership impact of this position is the level of service and the team's ability to meet quality and volume goals and the timeliness of completion. It is a senior-level technology position, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of information technology concepts, issues, trends, and best practices as they relate to the mainframe environment.

  • Manage system programming professionals and leaders, accountable for team performance and results.
  • Collaborate with high-level IT professionals, business strategists, specialized technicians, and business partners.
  • Solve complex problems impacting strategic IT priorities and measurable business results.
  • Act as a credible expert advisor to peers and internal/external business partners.
  • Create improved IT materials, tools, work aids, and processes related to System Administration.
  • Coach less experienced system programmers.
  • Collaborate on operational/tactical business issues with internal business partner managers.
  • Lead the group of mainframe system programmers in overall environment administration.
  • Design, manage, and maintain the data mirroring solution for disaster recoverability.
  • Install, configure, and maintain z/OS operating system releases.
  • Install, maintain, and administer mainframe 3rd-party software products.
  • Troubleshoot mainframe hardware and software issues.
  • Maintain documentation on standards and procedures.
  • Participate in setting strategic direction for mainframe services and technology implementation.
  • Work with operations and delivery teams to develop and implement new functionality.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring on the business value of various solutions.
  • Mentor staff in the application of technologies, processes, tools, and standards.
  • Lead staff in defining project scope, plans, and deliverables.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in leading, guiding, and coaching professional staff.
  • Experience in resource allocation and management.
  • Experience in managing personnel and information technology resources.
  • Advanced knowledge of Service Life Cycle.
  • Experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Effective relationship-building, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of IBM Mainframe, z/OS, and peripheral hardware.
  • Advanced knowledge of automated systems.
  • Experience in developing and managing budget.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • 10 years experience in mainframe system programming and related technologies, with at least 5 years experience in management of system programmers.
  • Strategic planning and implementation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry and market trends related to mainframe operations.
  • Knowledge of NFCU operations, processes, and procedures.
  • Experience with ADO, Ansible, Github, ServiceNow.
