About The Position

This role leads and manages hydrographic survey operations across marine, coastal, riverine, and inland environments, ensuring high-quality data acquisition and analysis for navigation, infrastructure, and coastal projects. You will serve as a senior technical resource, mentoring junior staff, guiding complex survey planning, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards. The position requires hands-on involvement in survey execution, data processing, and quality control, while also contributing to business development and client engagement. This role blends fieldwork with strategic oversight, offering the opportunity to shape survey methodologies, advance team capabilities, and drive operational excellence in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hydrography, Geomatics, Surveying, Oceanography, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible hydrographic survey experience.
  • Professional hydrographic certification (e.g., Certified Hydrographer (CH), IHO Category A/B, or equivalent).
  • Experience leading field crews and managing complex survey projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of hydrographic survey equipment, including multibeam/single beam echosounders, GNSS/INS systems, sound velocity profilers, and tide gauges.
  • Proficiency in data processing, analysis, and quality control using industry-standard software.
  • Valid driver’s license required; boating certifications or DOT license preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate independently and collaboratively.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in varying conditions, lift/carry 20+ pounds, and perform mobility tasks including walking, bending, climbing, or kneeling.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and oversee hydrographic survey operations for complex projects, including vessel selection, equipment configuration, and survey line planning.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor for Hydrographers and Survey Technicians, providing guidance on methods, data quality, and compliance.
  • Ensure surveys meet industry, regulatory, and client standards, including NOAA, USACE, and IHO S-44.
  • Conduct hydrographic data acquisition, process and validate bathymetric and positioning data, and prepare final deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, standard operating procedures, and best practices for survey operations.
  • Support project planning, proposal development, and contribute to business development and client engagement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in the field and office, and coordinate with internal teams and clients to resolve survey constraints.
