About The Position

At Joseph’s Classic Market, our Grocery Manager plays a key role in ensuring shelves are full, promotions are executed flawlessly, and guests can always find what they need. Leading one of the largest and most dynamic areas of the store, this role balances merchandising execution, inventory control, and team leadership to keep the department running efficiently while delivering a seamless shopping experience. Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years of grocery retail experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of grocery categories, merchandising, and inventory control
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in ordering systems and inventory tools
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on feet for extended periods
  • Flexible schedule including early mornings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all grocery floor operations including dry goods, canned goods, beverages, dairy, frozen, and non-food items
  • Maintain full, clean, and well-organized shelves and backroom storage areas
  • Ensure all shelves, endcaps, and displays are stocked and rotated using FIFO
  • Supervise opening and closing duties for the grocery department
  • Coordinate product movement between storage, backstock, and sales floor
  • Execute company merchandising plans and planograms
  • Set and maintain attractive promotional displays
  • Coordinate weekly ad sets, special promotions, and seasonal resets
  • Ensure accurate signage, shelf tags, and pricing
  • Keep high-traffic displays full, clean, and shoppable throughout the day
  • Order products from approved vendors based on par levels and sales trends
  • Monitor and manage inventory to reduce shrink and overstocks
  • Conduct inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies
  • Maintain organized backstock systems
  • Track waste and damaged goods
  • Ensure team members provide knowledgeable, responsive guest service
  • Handle customer concerns and product inquiries professionally
  • Train staff to assist with product location, substitutions, and special orders
  • Maintain a welcoming and service-focused environment
  • Hire, train, and schedule grocery clerks and stockers
  • Provide coaching and ongoing development to team members
  • Lead daily huddles to review goals, priorities, and promotions
  • Manage labor budgets and staffing levels to align with sales volume
  • Enforce safety standards (ladder use, heavy lifting procedures, spill response)
  • Submit weekly sales, labor, and shrink reports to Store Manager
  • Communicate vendor or delivery issues to buyers and leadership
  • Coordinate with other department managers on store-wide initiatives
  • Maintain accurate stocking, rotation, and ordering logs
