Jensen Hughes is seeking a Manager in our San Diego office. This position reports to the Team Leader in San Diego and is responsible for leading a team of technical contributors performing a range of professional services, primarily in the Fire and Building Safety service line. Successful execution of the position will include a strong focus on staff engagement and career development. Successful candidates will ideally reside in and/or relocate to the San Diego area to allow for appropriate proximity to the team necessary for successful engagement. Hybrid or remote work arrangements will be considered.

  • Manage and implement a wide variety of engineering design and consulting projects.
  • Ensure business processes are implemented and recommend improvements for delivering best-in-class service.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Develop innovative solutions by leveraging differences in education, personalities, skill sets, experiences, and knowledge bases within the team.
  • Work closely with the Southern California leadership team to execute company and regional strategies.
  • Assist Team Leader in recruiting and retaining top talent.
  • Along with other leaders, train staff on technical, project management, and business processes and procedures.
  • With the Team Leader, identify and facilitate opportunities for service line growth, helping to achieve opportunities for staff.
  • Proactively grow and broaden the skill base in their team.
  • Ensure a team environment of technical and moral support that enables employees to take on challenging new projects and grow.
  • Responsible for technical contributors, project managers, and is a people leader of up to 8 people.
  • Work with Team Leader to establish appropriate performance standards and have regular conversations with team members to ensure they are met.
  • Use their business acumen and knowledge of the Jensen Hughes business model to guide and coach individuals to succeed.
  • Lead and mentor staff and project teams related to technical skills, project management skills and business development skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience and demonstrated successful history in performing technical consulting work and developing and cultivating client relationships.
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) or higher in an engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Well-rounded working knowledge of fire protection engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to mentor and manage staff while also handing responsibilities as a Project Manager.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Professional designation is desirable but not required (e.g., Professional Engineering License).
