Your role as Manager, Event Operations: You will participate in the execution and fulfillment of all Petco Park events from an operational perspective including all Padres home baseball games and any/all Internal events, functions and/or promotions associated with Padres home games; any organizational-related on-site or off-site events, set-up and break down. In addition, you will participate in the execution of large-scale non-baseball events including but not limited to concerts and other events sold by the Padres Special Events Department. The Manager is instrumental in the recruitment, hiring, training, managing, and development of the Event Crew including the Reserves Program. In the absence of the Director, Event Operations, the Manager serves as the point of contact for the Event Operations Department for Padres games, internal and non-baseball events.

Requirements

  • Proficient computer skills including experience with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc., and general knowledge of basic office equipment including copier, laser printer, telephone, and computer
  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and effectively work well with others in a collaborative, respectful manner
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills with capacity to handle high volumes of detailed work, multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines
  • Maintain professional demeanor with a high degree of discretion, integrity, and accountability
  • Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree, or education equivalent, in Operations, Event Management, or other closely related field
  • Minimum of 2-4 years supervisory experience in a sports or entertainment facility with emphasis on Operations, Guest Services and Crowd Management/Safety
  • Demonstrated success in the recruitment, selection, supervision, evaluation and training of part-time employees
  • Proven track record of results in managing large scale events including concerts, sporting events and/or other large public gatherings
  • Able to work flexible hours including Padres home games, evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed
  • Able to travel as needed
  • Minimum physical requirements: able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark for prolonged periods of time during games and events; able to lift and transport up to 25 pounds
  • As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check

Responsibilities

  • Ensures operational requirements as stated in the Homestand Production Notes (for baseball events) and Event Orders (non-baseball events) are implemented, executed and fulfilled appropriately and correctly as communicated per each document from inception to completion
  • Manages Event Crew and Ball Girls for Padres games and non-baseball events
  • Conducts effective and efficient Event Crew and Event Medical briefing prior to any Padres games and/or Petco Park event
  • Assists with promotional item distribution including gate allocation and inventory management
  • Serves as a liaison for Corporate Partner activations communications, fostering partnerships and ensuring seamless collaboration
  • Supports all internal/community events including but not limited to the Annual Padres Winter and Summer Blood Drives, High School Home Run Derby & All-Star Game, and the Annual Turkey Drive
  • Manages the in-house sign printing including inventory management
  • Manages large-scale signage projects for Petco Park ensuring accuracy and project timeliness
  • Ensures Petco Park event spaces and services meet clients’ and guests’ expectations and event spaces and areas are safe while identifying and ensuring removal of any safety hazards
  • Manages the Padres Reserves Program in conjunction with the People & Culture Department
  • Manages the scheduling Event Personnel (Ball Girls, Event Crew, Event Nurses & Physicians) for all San Diego Padres/Petco Park Internal/External/Non-Baseball Events
  • Participates in the development, preparation and implementation of annual budget, strategic plan and performance service objectives for Event Operations department in a cost-effective manner
  • Manages Event Staff Uniform inventory in conjunction with Guest Experience Department
  • Participates in the development, presentation, and maintenance of all Event Operations training and orientation programs
  • Works alongside and provides guidance to Event Crew regarding their duties and responsibilities
  • Writes and delivers performance evaluation(s) of assigned employee(s) including but not limited to Mid-Season Reviews (new hires) and End of Season/Year (all returning staff)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President, Ballpark Operations and Director, Event Operations
