The Enterprise Risk Management & Risk Oversight (ERM&RO) organization within Global Risk and Compliance (a Second Line of Defense function) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all business units, functions, processes, and geographies at American Express. The ERM Framework, Governance and Reporting team within ERM&RO provides an independent view of risks faced by American Express and is responsible for aggregating the risk profile for the Company. The team is focused on key risk management activities, including but not limited to, risk identification and assessment, risk appetite, effective challenge, and committee governance and reporting. These responsibilities span the AXP Bank Holding Company as well as the subsidiary US Bank (American Express National Bank). The Manager of Risk Appetite is responsible for developing, managing, and monitoring risk appetite statements, which articulate the level and type of risk the company is willing to accept to carry out its strategic plans. Specific responsibilities for the Manager of Risk Appetite include: Maintain a deep understanding of various Interagency Supervisory Guidance on Risk Management, including, but not limited to: OCC Heightened Standards, Internal Control booklet of the Comptroller’s Handbook, Corporate and Risk Governance booklet of the Comptroller’s Handbook, Large bank Supervision booklet of the Comptroller’s Handbook. Are able to integrate regulatory expectations into the enterprise risk management framework to ensure compliance with risk management programs and practices. Assist with the design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Risk Appetite Policy and Risk Appetite Statement, as well as the Escalation Standard Contribute to the CRO’s challenge to the Company’s strategic plan, and identify and document implications of the plan to the Company’s risk appetite framework Provide ongoing monitoring and reporting of Company-wide adherence to risk thresholds and limits, ensuring timely and disciplined risk escalation and remediation Provide effective challenge to Second- and First-Line ongoing implementation of the Risk Appetite Policy and Statement and the Escalation Standard

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business administration, or related field; advanced degree required
  • 3-5 years of experience in enterprise risk management, or similar risk management discipline, within the financial services industry
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, products, and regulatory requirements impacting risk management.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and writing skills

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as FRM, PRM, or CRM are highly desirable

Responsibilities
