How you will make an impact The Manager, Environmental Health and Safety & Site Operations role is an EHS professional with biopharma, life sciences EHS, Sustainability, & Site Operations Management experience. This individual leads the Minnetonka site, strategy, planning, operation, and implementation successful EHS and Site Operations functions. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to: Lead the development, integration and management of Minnetonka site Environmental, Health & Safety and Sustainability programs, processes, and initiatives under the direction of the Director of EHS and ensure physical plant & laboratory operations are efficient and aligned with corporate EHS & sustainability targets Champion the EHS excellence culture at the Minnetonka, MN and Ewing, NJ sites, creating an environment of continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned, detailed root cause analyses, and best EHS practices proactively Develop and maintain strategies to prevent incidents, injuries, illnesses and environmental incidents by implementing systematic approaches, safety protocols, and robust training programs across site employee populations, including safety training, written EHS program & policy development, and OSHA record keeping requirements Collaborate with corporate EHS and various site departmental leaders to develop site EHS metrics, schedule and facilitate quarterly meetings, and ensure cross functional EHS performance remains aligned with company goals Maintain and improve management systems to ensure compliance with local and state industrial environmental management regulations, including environmental policies, risk assessments, safety & environmental stewardship related to hazardous waste management, air & water quality Design emergency preparedness strategies based on top risks within the sites and lead facilities efforts in crisis emergency situations, ensuring all efforts are handled effectively Implement and maintain manufacturing/assembly operations safety plans and systems to ensure compliance and employee safety with emphasis on LOTO, ergonomics, lab and warehouse safety Collaborates cross functionally to plan, organize, coordinate, and implement site events with safety & health, security, and efficiency in mind Liaise and collaborate with regulatory agencies, local law enforcement, fire department, and Community Emergency Response Teams Maintain a local industry presence, foster peer-to-peer relationships, and promote Halozyme EHS with recognized industry organizations and professionals (NSC, ASSP, AHMP, ISPE, etc…)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS related field or an Associate's degree combined with relevant EHS professional certifications (ie. ASSP certification, OSHA 500/501, OTI professional certification)
  • Minimum 6 years of EHS practical experience within BioPharma, life sciences, or related field, with 2-3 EHS management experience a plus
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience in hazardous material incident preparedness and response
  • Experience collaborating across all business functions and levels to implement innovative and creative contributions to business challenges and opportunities
  • Ability to develop, facilitate, and provide effective worker instruction, learning and training programs
  • Application of hierarchy of control principles to evaluate and control risk, sound level meter and other dosimetry, gas detection and confined space monitoring equipment, First Aid, AED, CPR training.
  • Intermediate chemical hygiene, biosafety, and radiation experience

Nice To Haves

  • Recognized EHS related industry certification preferred (ie. CHMM, ASP/CSP, CIH)
  • Knowledge of other EHS, emergency management, learning management, and document control software a plus
