About E&ES: Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E&ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Job Summary: The Power Electronics Test & Validation Manager ensures Cat power electronics meet customer, quality, and durability expectations by owning validation strategy, governing execution rigor, and proactively eliminating risk before production and field exposure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field
  • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Extensive experience and knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communications: Extensive experience and understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Technical Excellence: Extensive experience and knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Customer/Market Focus: Extensive experience and understanding of the importance of remaining aware of shifting market priorities and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a manner that consistently adds value.

  • Strong understanding of Caterpillar test and validation processes and methodologies
  • Proficiency in general electronics work and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience with circuit boards, electronic integration, wiring harnesses, and related components
  • Experience working with high-voltage systems

Responsibilities

  • Own the validation and verification strategy for power electronics components across NTI, NPI, and CPI programs, ensuring products meet customer, quality, durability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as an independent technical authority, providing objective checks and balances to design teams and ensuring early identification and mitigation of technical risk.
  • Drive early validation engagement and proactive risk prevention through first-pass validation planning, leverage reviews, and VPD-informed test strategies.
  • Govern and approve core validation artifacts (DFMEA, DVP&R, system readiness summaries, myNPI/PPRD) and ensure clear, accurate communication of risk and readiness at gateway reviews.
  • Lead and develop Validation Engineers, Test Engineers, and Lab Technicians, maintaining clear separation between planning and execution while building long-term organizational capability.
  • Own readiness and continuous improvement of power electronics laboratory capabilities, with accountability for safety, compliance, capacity planning, and data quality.
  • Enable disciplined cross-functional collaboration and clearly communicate validation status, technical risk, and mitigation plans to engineering leadership, ensuring no surprises at production release.
