They are responsible for defining and continually improving the design engineering processes to ensure quality standards and company profitability targets are met. This position will manage the processes of design engineering projects and delegate responsibilities to ensure projects are completed efficiently and successfully. The Manager, Design Engineering also provides oversight for the test pit activities as well as Hydroflo’s quality system. Measures of success: Manage research and development efforts to attain targeted total revenue in new product designs Implement and maintain Hydraulic Institute certification standards for test pit ISO certification readiness Oversee successful documentation of quality system and procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, preferably in the vertical turbine pump industry
  • 5+ years of supervisory or managerial experience
  • Expert proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) programs (SolidWorks required) and finite element analysis
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Epicor ERP preferred)
  • Experience with hydraulics engineering and test pit design
  • Able to manage multiple projects concurrently and pivot as necessary
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to present information in a clear and concise manner
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Able to work collaboratively with a diverse group of internal and external customers
  • Travel: approximately 25-35% of time to company locations and customer sites

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Design, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in the vertical turbine pump industry
  • 7+ years of supervisory or managerial experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License

Responsibilities

  • Manages product design engineering and analyzes engineered projects to ensure that they meet customer requirements.
  • Provides oversight and guidance for the development of product blueprints and other engineering data.
  • Directs preparations for product layout, detailed drawings, and schematics.
  • Ensures the accuracy of drawings and adherence to established organizational standards and objectives.
  • Plans, establishes, and communicates product design engineering schedules to provide on-time delivery.
  • Directs and coordinates manufacturing of prototype product.
  • Develops and designs experimental testing and analysis to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional team members to develop a comprehensive project submittal process that is approved and certified by an engineer.
  • Manages mechanical design engineering team that assists engineering sales representatives in configuring design parameters for more complex engineered products.
  • Plans and defines quality system policies and procedures. Evaluates and reviews these for continuous improvement.
  • Oversees and maintains quality system to ensure ISO readiness.
  • Designs and configures test pit specifications to align with Hydraulic Institute certification requirements.
  • Evaluates test pit product performance data and compares to industry standards to drive product research and development activities.
  • Prepares and manages department budget within company guidelines
  • Evaluates team members to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement; collaborate on development actions and ensure resources necessary to complete actions
  • Cascades relevant and appropriate information about the company and department effectively and in a timely manner
  • Coaches and mentors for skill and knowledge development
  • Executes necessary responsibilities of team during absences or alternate engagement
  • Ensures team adheres to company policies, practices, and department standards
  • Assigns actions and ensure completion
  • Reviews work quality and provides feedback and guidance to team
