About The Position

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes. Position Overview DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a Manager Cost Engineering – Supply Chain Procurement, located in Cork, Ireland, Raynham MA or West Chester PA. The Manager Cost Engineering is a senior technical authority and strategic partner within the DePuy Synthes Supply Chain Procurement organisation. The role is accountable for embedding advanced cost engineering and strategic cost management principles into the DePuy Synthes procurement teams, enabling fact-based negotiations, value creation, and sustained cost competitiveness across the DePuy Synthes portfolio. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Manager Cost Engineering partners closely with Procurement, R&D & Operations business partners to influence cost earlier in the product lifecycle, support complex supplier engagements, and strengthen financial performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field).
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, cost engineering, sourcing, quoting, or sales engineering environments in a highly regulated industry
  • Experience of working directly with suppliers is crucial
  • Deep understanding of Orthopaedics manufacturing processes, including precision machining, fabrication, forgings, and castings.
  • Strong financial skill with knowledge of product costing, activity‑based costing and strategic cost management principles.
  • Proven track record to apply advanced cost modelling to supplier negotiations and value creation initiatives.
  • Experience influencing senior cross‑functional collaborators in a global, matrixed organisation.
  • Ability to operate independently with accountability for complex deliverables and outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical cost data into clear business insights.
  • Ability to think critically, challenge information provided and articulate technical information to business partners and collaborators
  • Full professional proficiency in English.
  • Full proficiency in MS office tools, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Vision etc.
  • Ability to analyse data, compare information, identify trends and outliers, harness market intelligence / other industry data and summarize into meaningful and actionable insights.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for complex cost modelling and analytics.
  • Experience with statistical and data analytics tools such as Minitab, SQL, Tableau, or similar platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Act as cost engineering partner to Supply Chain Procurement, providing subject matter expertise across manufacturing technologies and supplier engagements.
  • Drive alignment with Procurement leadership on Cost Engineering engagement guidelines, prioritisation, and should cost model coverage targets aligned to business needs.
  • Integrate strategic cost management principles into procurement processes to improve visibility, consistency, and decision making.
  • Support delivery of Procurement Gross Savings, MMF performance, and development of multiyear value creation pipelines.
  • Partner with Procurement teams to identify, and structure supplier specific value delivery strategies.
  • Engage upstream with R&D and Procurement NPD teams to influence cost earlier in the product lifecycle.
  • Harness the power of Digital and AI to develop world class data driven cost engineering capabilities
  • Establish and maintain industry-based cost benchmarks and analytics to support strategic decisions.
  • Lead should cost modelling and cost analytics to support strategic sourcing, MEP execution, contract renewals, and complex supplier negotiations.
  • Lead and deliver training to Procurement, SRM, and cross functional teams on cost engineering and use during negotiations to optimise business results
