About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Revenue Accounting, MP Materials is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Manager, Corporate Accounting, to own complex and technical areas within corporate accounting as well as other areas supporting general ledger close in our vertically integrated business model. This individual will be responsible for the broader corporate accounting functions including debt, equity, government contracts, leases, intercompany eliminations, international accounting and foreign currency, to support in the monthly close and reporting process. Additionally, the Manager, Corporate Accounting will work under the direction of the Director, Revenue Accounting, to ensure compliance with ASC 606, manage complex revenue contracts including calculations requiring sophisticated Excel-based models, driving timely and accurate financial reporting, and assist with accounts receivable and invoicing customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA license.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in general ledger, corporate accounting, or similar areas at a publicly traded company, and/or Big 4 public accounting experience.
  • Ability to develop cross functional relationships both within the finance function and the broader organization. Work effectively on cross functional teams and a demonstrated ability to partner with other functions.
  • Prior people leadership experience or strong readiness to lead and develop a team.
  • Ability to prioritize, think strategically and exercise sound judgment.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (preferably SAP S/4HANA), financial reporting tools (e.g., OneStream, Hyperion), and/or lease accounting software.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Own corporate accounting execution for assigned areas, serving as the primary point of accountability for accuracy, timeliness, and U.S. GAAP compliance, while partnering with the Director, Revenue Accounting, and General Ledger leadership to resolve complex issues in a proactive and thoughtful manner.
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries primarily related to corporate activities, including debt, equity, intercompany eliminations, as well as international accounting, foreign currency, leases, accounts receivable, and government contracts. As applicable, supervise accounting staff, fostering professional growth and accountability.
  • Reconcile corporate general ledger accounts, including intercompany eliminations, as well as those relating to revenue, leases, and other assigned areas during month-end and resolve any reconciliation items timely.
  • Utilize IT systems such as: SAP, OneStream, Blackline, lease accounting software, electronic banking, and customer billing portals, etc., as daily tools to accomplish work objectives.
  • Contribute to financial statement analytical reviews by providing detailed explanations for account changes and fluctuations.
  • Analyze financial implications and assist with the implementation of new accounting directives for operations across the Company’s business units.
  • Collaboratively develop, prepare, and maintain ASC 606 revenue recognition models.
  • Monitor new revenue streams and business models (e.g., magnet sales, international shipments, government contracts) for proper revenue treatment.
  • Prepare and/or review customer invoices in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Review financial information of the corporate entities as well as international and other entities in support of the close process to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Dedicate the necessary time each month to support the achievement of a timely, accurate, and efficient general ledger close and reporting process for assigned corporate functions and other areas.
  • Assist in operationalizing new and recurring revenue contracts and corporate transactions and enhance existing accounting processes.
  • Work with the Director, Revenue Accounting, to maintain adequate internal controls and safeguard company assets.
