Enterprise Shared Services (ESS) comprises key functions that are core to the company’s operations, including Global Real Estate & Workplace Experience, Global Supply Management, Business Continuity Management, Aviation, and Global Security. The Corporate Functions Governance & Control team governs first line of defense risk management centrally for the corporate functions: American Express National Bank (AENB) HQ, Corporate Affairs & Communications, Colleague Experience Group, Enterprise Strategy, Enterprise Shared Services, General Counsel’s Office, and Global Risk & Compliance. The Corporate Functions Governance & Control team is looking for a Manager, Business Continuity (BC) Coordinator who will support the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of the business continuity program for our Corporate Functions. This person will help ensure critical operations continue or are promptly restored in the event of disruptions, emergencies, or disasters. The role will work cross‑functionally, liaising with the Business Continuity Management Enterprise team, with BC Plan developers and owners across the Corporate Functions to create and refresh BC Plans, plan and execute BC exercises and ensure awareness of BC requirements.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, or related risk/resilience work in a large financial institution.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Risk Management, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience leading continuity planning, BIAs, testing, and training.
  • Experience working across multiple departments with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to assess risks, impacts, and dependencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to translate technical content into plain language.
  • Project management skills: ability to manage multiple initiatives and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with continuity planning software tools (i.e., Archer).
  • Comfortable working both independently and in cross‑functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Business continuity certification (e.g. Certified Business Continuity Professional – CBCP, or Associate Business Continuity Professional – ABCP) is desirable.
  • Proactive, self‑starter, and resourceful.
  • Adaptable and flexible in dynamic environments.
  • Strong sense of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to function under pressure and in crisis scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate development, refresh and documentation of business continuity plans for the Corporate Functions.
  • Facilitate the development and refresh of business impact analyses (BIAs) to identify critical functions, dependencies, and acceptable recovery time objectives.
  • Assist in the identification of mitigation strategies and continuity strategies (e.g. alternate sites, backup systems, manual workarounds).
  • Coordinate and lead testing, simulations, drills, tabletop exercises, and audits of continuity plans.
  • Evaluate test results, identify gaps, and drive corrective actions and plan improvements.
  • Provide training, awareness, and communications to stakeholders on continuity procedures, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Assist in the coordination of response and recovery efforts during actual disruptions, acting as a liaison among departments.
  • Act as a liaison between the Business Continuity Management Enterprise Program team and the Corporate Functions.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations for management on continuity readiness, test outcomes, and improvement plans.
  • Monitor organizational changes (mergers, system upgrades, new facilities, process changes) and facilitate updating continuity plans accordingly.
