About The Position

The Manager, Community Impact leads the execution of Good Reason Houston’s community-based activation strategy in priority districts and is responsible for mobilizing parents, residents, and stakeholders into structured pathways of participation that advance advocacy priorities tied to economic mobility and living wage outcomes. This role serves as a visible representative of the organization in community spaces and manages the full engagement pipeline—from initial recruitment to onboarding to sustained participation. It requires strong external relationship leadership, clear communication, and disciplined operational follow-through to ensure community engagement translates into measurable impact. In this role, the Manager drives consistent growth in active participants, strengthens conversion from onboarding to first action, and cultivates a base that reflects the communities we most aim to serve. The position relies on a data-informed approach to track participation patterns, surface trends, and refine tactics based on performance. Success hinges on the Manager’s ability to align field strategy with established advocacy priorities, maintain accountability across the engagement pipeline, and elevate community perspectives in ways that deepen understanding and support mobilization around policies that promote economic mobility for Houston students. This role also supports coordinated engagement efforts with our affiliate organization, Houstonians for Great Public Schools, ensuring alignment across shared priorities and participation pathways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Completion of an organizing or leadership development training cohort or fellowship required.
  • Minimum 3 years of community organizing experience with responsibility for recruitment or public engagement.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms, data visualization tools, and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Converts strategy into weekly priorities, calendars, and targets.
  • Builds trust with diverse communities and partners; strong facilitation for on-ramps and one-on-ones.
  • Data-driven follow through; maintains clean records and produces clear summaries.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; clear, plain-language outreach.
  • Organized, responsive, and adaptable.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a visible, consistent representative of Good Reason Houston in priority districts, including schools, churches, neighborhood meetings, and civic spaces
  • Independently cultivate trusted relationships with community leaders, parent groups, and partner organizations, activating these relationships to expand pathways for engagement and community mobilization efforts
  • Develop, manage, and execute a recurring community presence calendar that reflects strategic priorities, prioritizes high-impact spaces and builds momentum through sustained relationship building
  • Co-develop and deliver community engagement activities in partner with local leaders , ensuring events and activations elevate GRH’s visibility and deepen community trust
  • Translate organizational priorities into accessible entry points for parents and residents across diverse community settings, tailoring messaging and engagement approaches to diverse community contexts and needs
  • Drive district-based list-building efforts end-to-end through in-person outreach, events, and community-driven recruitment strategies
  • Design and maintain a consistent sign-up and follow-up system for all engagement opportunities, creating clear processes—including paper forms, QR codes, and digital tools that ensure accurate data capture, timely follow-up, and sustained engagement over time.
  • Grow high-quality contact lists that reflect priority geographies, communities, and advocacy objectives, ensuring data integrity and
  • Leverage relationship-based recruitment strategies that prioritize trust, opportunities to act, and long-term participation
  • Partner closely with Communications to align outreach messaging, ensuring all materials and engagement approaches are clear, culturally responsive, and aligned with organizational priorities
  • Design and lead structured, welcoming onboarding experiences that clearly introduce Good Reason Houston’s mission and move participants into defined first actions
  • Design & facilitate Ambassador trainings and participation orientations with clear expectations, practice opportunities, and measurable outcomes that support readiness and confidence
  • Implement timely and consistent follow-up systems to ensure new participants convert into active engagement
  • Strengthen completion and follow-through across participation opportunities through cadence, targeted reminders, and relationship-based accountability practices
  • Refine onboarding formats and participation pathways using participant feedback, engagement data, and insights from follow-up conversations to strengthen clarity, conversion, and retention
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Managing Director, Advocacy.

  • The starting salary for this position is $80,000 annually.
  • New hires are offered a salary depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
  • Good Reason Houston also has a 401(k) (automatic 3% employer contribution), life, medical, dental and vision insurance packages.
  • Each employee accrues 35 paid time off days per calendar year in addition to the 19 paid holidays per year.
  • Good Reason Houston is an office-based organization, but allows for virtual work on Mondays and Fridays.
