About The Position

The manager is responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant coding through appropriate direction, training, and supervision of the Coding staff. This position provides daily, weekly, and monthly reports to management as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or health related field. Will consider a combination of education and work experience equivalent
  • Professional Coding Certification (i.e. CPC, CCSP) required
  • 3-5 years’ experience in healthcare industry with upward mobility documented
  • 2-3 years of Anesthesia experience required
  • 2-3 year of supervisory experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and work independently with minimal supervision
  • In-depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and ASA coding
  • In-depth knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers Compensation guidelines and billing standards
  • In-depth knowledge of patient accounting systems and the ability to adapt prior knowledge to current software
  • In-depth knowledge of anesthesia and chronic/acute pain billing
  • Strong understanding of healthcare reimbursement methodologies and regulations.
  • Able to work effectively with staff, physicians, and external customers.
  • Must have strong skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must have a pleasant disposition and high-tolerance level for diverse views and opinions
  • Able to motivate diverse personalities within the department
  • Membership and active participation in professional organizations
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
  • Skill in gathering, reporting, and analyzing information.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Coding team including but not limited to hiring, training, managing, evaluating team performance, and conducting professional development plans.
  • Provides training and ongoing education, annual reviews, and performance monitoring for all coders.
  • Develops and monitors compliance policies and procedures for coding team.
  • Ensures coders’ productivity and quality. Communicates standards and performance expectations.
  • Monitors turnaround time for coding completion.
  • Monitors concurrency daily.
  • Provides coding guidance to physicians, CRNAs, and other providers.
  • Audits coding work queues and maintains appropriate quality standards (including CPT, ICD-10, ASA, and HCPCS codes).
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of billing systems and automation daily processes.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
  • Adherence to and compliance with information systems security is everyone’s responsibility. It is the responsibility of every computer user to: Know and follow Information Systems security policies and procedures. Attend Information Systems security training, when offered. Report information systems security problems.
  • Mentors employees, conducts performance evaluations, counsels, provides disciplinary actions to assigned personnel, and works to facilitate individual and team development that drives positive results.
  • Continually identifies process improvement methods and ways to automate processes to increase efficiencies
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
