About The Position

OEC provides software solutions to those who work in the automotive parts and repair industry. Our solutions make it easier for automotive industry professionals to buy and sell parts, conduct repair research & planning, optimize estimates, improve the parts supply chain, and more. OEC partners with many of the world’s largest manufacturers, dealers and suppliers, shops and repairers, and service providers, giving our customers access to a comprehensive network and a streamlined workflow. Job Summary/Objective Provides day-to-day guidance to a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to design, automate, and operate our cloud environments (AWS) using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, and modern observability (DataDog) practices. Manages individual and team assignments, and ensures team members are positioned to meet deliverables. Mentors engineers, influences technical direction, and partners across development, platform, and security teams. Ensures OEC’s cloud foundation is secure, scalable, and reliable.

Requirements

At least 10 years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineering, hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, a proven ability to lead and develop technical teams providing strategic direction, project oversight and hands-on guidance, and at least 2 years of management experience with responsibility for leading direct reports.
Ability to lead diverse teams and create an engaging and positive culture that motivates and empowers others to do great work.
Deep understanding of well-architected design, multi-region redundancy, high availability, and distributed systems.
Strong expertise in AWS cloud services (ECS, RDS, Lambda, Aurora, S3, VPC, IAM, etc.).
Proficiency with CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar).
Solid knowledge of observability tools (Datadog, Dynatrace, Grafana/Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution.
Sound business judgement and strong critical thinking skills to solve for a variety of business challenges.
Ability to manage and lead at a tactical level with direct reports, and at a strategic level with OEC leadership.
Strong interpersonal skills and can effectively promote teamwork and collaboration.
Flexible and adaptable approach to work, and can support direct reports with adjusting to shifts in priorities as the needs of the business change.
Proactive and results-oriented workstyle to ensure team objectives and deliverables are met.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, with a focus in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. In the absence of a degree, equivalent work experience directly related to the key responsibilities of the role will be considered as a substitute for the degree.

Responsibilities

Manages and leads a team of cross-disciplinary engineers including skillsets in devops, cloud, database administration, networking, and cybersecurity; fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
Sets individual team goals and expectations.
Provides ongoing coaching and feedback, and completes formal assessments on performance.
Helps team members with solving for complex and/or escalated issues, and removes roadblocks as needed.
Promotes individual and team learning & growth, and supports the upward mobility of team members.
Partners closely with Product Engineering to align infrastructure capabilities with the evolving needs of modernized cloud-native applications.
Drives the design, automation, and operation of AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform, Chef, Packer, and modern cloud-native services.
Guides the team in migrating on-prem workloads to AWS while modernizing the infrastructure to leverage cloud-native services (AWS) with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), and common observability (Datadog).
Partners with product, development, QA, and security teams to ensure seamless, secure, and reliable delivery of applications and services.
Owns technical delivery of infrastructure projects at scale — from migration to AWS to building cloud-native foundations.
Champions best practices in automation, observability, cloud security, and operational excellence.
Collaborates with senior leadership to align cloud infrastructure strategy with business objectives.
Recruits, hires new team members, and plays an active role in shaping the engineering culture at OEC. Ensures newly hired employees have the tools, knowledge and information needed to be successful.
Partners with department leadership to help manage business expenses aligned with the budget. Assists with developing budget recommendations and participates in forecasting and budgeting activities as requested.
