About The Position

The Manager of Clinical Education is responsible for managing, overseeing and providing leadership to educators, education committee and direct care staff. Responsible for seeking effective methods and contents to ensure delivery of high-quality clinical education. Provides staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leader and researcher. Supports the development of bedside nurses and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence in the delivery of evidence-based nursing practice, which occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development. Plans, organizes, delivers, and evaluates clinical educational programs with input from Nursing Management and the Quality Department. As a role model of professional behavior, they are instrumental in creating a professional nursing environment. Demonstrates leadership ability, possesses excellent communication skills, knowledge proficiency, and decision-making abilities. Applies knowledge to act as clinical resource, educator, role model, and leader supporting the mission, vision and values of the CMH Health System.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Current CA RN Licensure
  • Three (3) years of clinical experience in acute care nursing or nursing education
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

  • Master’s Degree
  • Five (5) years of nursing education experience in an acute care setting

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, supports, and provides continuing education to hospital staff and clinicians to maintain proficiency in the management and education of patients.
  • Assists other staff in the development and implementation of policies, procedures Care Maps, Clinical Pathways, Standards of Care, Forms, and other inpatient services.
  • Assess, develop, plan, implement, and evaluate instructional materials and educational and clinical programs to meet the learning needs of direct care staff including orientation, clinical teaching and in-service, using a variety of strategic tools.
  • Provides hands-on clinical orientation and instruction to licensed and unlicensed personnel.
  • Skilled in developing and conducting training programs, work assessment and has knowledge of learning principles and training techniques, knowledge of state/federal requirements for accreditation and certification.
  • Teach staff the concept of good mentoring and preceptor skills.
  • Review and revise policies in general.
  • Conduct a needs assessment and develop plans for learning experiences appropriate for meeting recognized needs. Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs and make recommendations for program content revision.
  • Responsible for working with the managers of other departments and all contracted nursing services to provide education to staff.
  • Demonstrates good leadership by regularly keeping the directors of clinical services informed of departmental activities, needs, problems, and administrative matters on a regular basis.
  • May require flexible shifts depending on the educations/orientation needs of staff.
  • Works individually and/or in collaboration.
  • Assists in implementation of research, evidence-based practices and procedures.
  • May plan and teach curriculum related to Hospital Orientation, Nursing Orientation, CPR Course and/or Specialty Area Training.
  • Explores strategies to maintain and/or reduce resource consumption, to reduce length of stay, facilitates implementation of these strategies house-wide, and monitors results.
  • Maintains a state of the art approach to staff development training.
  • Be proactive in seeking the latest information about practice and theory. Develops and maintains a collaborative working relationship with physicians, associates, colleagues, and all healthcare team members involved in patient care.
  • Maintains professional knowledge by affiliating with professional organizations and by participating in applicable continuing education programs.
  • Maintains a comprehensive database and related documentation for clinical staff attendance at mandated training programs.
  • Participates in the education committee and program development task force.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in the development of staff education and protocols/ policies and procedures to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
