About The Position

The Clinical Education Faculty helps develop, integrate, and teach the clinical curriculum as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure students receive broad-based training experience. Responsibilities include designing, revising, delivering, and coordinating the curriculum, as well as promoting its integration across all curricular phases. The position supports the Director of Clinical Integration Education in curriculum development related to instruction, evaluation, and assessment. This role also involves direct student instruction, providing feedback, using educational technology, driving curriculum innovation, and assessing student performance. Faculty and staff members will contribute to the development and rollout of the ARCHES curriculum, which is built on evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. It includes the following six core elements which will be interwoven throughout the four-year curriculum: Art of Healing Research Clinical Health Systems Science Embracing Whole Health Science of Medicine This is a nontenure track full-time faculty position (FTE up to 1.0, negotiable).

Requirements

  • M.D or D.O degree, required.
  • Current or prior clinical practice as a physician within the United States, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Greater than two (2) years of experience in an accredited undergraduate medical education or post graduate level education programs, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in medical education, including curriculum development, formulating and editing assessment tools, and delivery in the field of clinical education, preferred.
  • Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating integrated clinical education courses, preferred.
  • Familiarity with an array of educational technologies and active learning methodologies, preferred.
  • Experience with different assessment methods, preferred.
  • Experience with different adult learning methods (e.g. CBL, PBL, TBL, small-groups, simulation, etc.), preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Curriculum – oversee the development and integration of all content tied to the pre-clerkship clinical education, including the development of clinically relevant narratives and various assessment tools including, but not limited to, NBME-style multiple-choice questions and assessment of student performance in active learning sessions.
  • Teach / Instruct / Facilitate - actively engage in student instruction, developing and delivering content using active learning methodologies. Collaborate with faculty colleagues to create, deliver, and teach the ARCHES curriculum. Facilitate small and large group active learning; serve as a facilitator for small group discussions such as case-based learning, and other small group sessions.
  • Assess / Evaluate - create learning objectives related to respective clinical sciences and map them to the curriculum. Use appropriate metrics and assessment methods to ensure that students meet those objectives. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff for continuous quality improvement of courses, sessions, activities, and assessments. Serve as course director or co-director for a course within the organ systems curriculum.
  • Support integration efforts with colleagues to ensure the appropriate representation of the clinical education curricular thread across the curriculum. Co-develop and facilitate ARCHES cases as needed. Collaborate with Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and Director of Clinical Integration Education to develop and deliver pre-clerkship clinical curriculum.
  • Participate in professional development programs to enhance teaching, educational, and other skills needed to execute their responsibilities.
  • Actively serve in leadership and group membership within the medical school (e.g., Curriculum Committee, Admissions Committee, etc.).
  • Abide by LCME standards and AWSOM policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
