The Mechanical Engineering team is responsible for designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure for the innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. The company is currently hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the Cell Design group in Berkeley, CA, focusing on the mechanical design of the iron-air battery cell. This role involves managing a team of engineers and coordinating build support activities at the factory in Weirton, WV.

  • Manage and grow a world-class team of mechanical engineers that deliver on key objectives toward advancing Form Energy's product development efforts
  • Lead the product development process and mechanical design of components for Form's battery cell
  • Define and drive necessary analysis (e.g., FEA), hands-on testing, and failure analysis of cell structural components
  • Analyze component and assembly tolerances and develop cost/manufacturing/performance/reliability trades
  • Collaborate with module design engineers to ensure seamless integration of all components
  • Collaborate with the safety and compliance teams to ensure all design decisions meet Form's safety standards
  • Partner with manufacturing engineers and supply chain to release design packages for high volume production
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of battery, chemical, and electrical engineers to define battery cell design requirements
  • 10+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and high proficiency in CAD
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and mentoring direct reports
  • Demonstrated experience in plastic component design for structural applications
  • Demonstrated experience in plastic sealing technologies and their implementation
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Direct experience with high-volume manufacturing, fabrication, and prototyping techniques; experience with tight-tolerance, multi-material component design for harsh environments
