The STxP Projects Manager will provide leadership for the STxP Capital Projects organization and manage the portfolio of projects typically ranging from $10MM to $70MM in aggregate for the three sites (Matagorda, Chocolate Bayou, and Victoria). This position will develop strategic plans, annual goals, and ensure alignment with all activities within the STxP sites, global manufacturing, and company strategic plan. This position will provide leadership, development, and coaching to direct reports and support staff to achieve business results, create value, and optimize the Capital project process. This position will work closely with the leadership, operations, technical, HSE, reliability, and maintenance teams from the three sites to develop and execute the capital long range plan. This position is responsible for the project scope definition, engineering and design, construction, management of cost and schedule, and all document control activities for Capital and expense projects. Additional responsibilities include direct supervision of designers, drafters, project engineers and other project related resources. The successful candidate must display strong personal initiative and leadership, desire to succeed through personal success, and strong interpersonal skills as well as planning and problem solving capability.This position reports to the MTO Maintenance and Reliability Manager.

Requirements

  • Four year college degree with typically a minimum of 10 years of applicable work experience in the refining/petrochemical/chemical industry is required. Engineering degree and project management experience preferred.
  • Experience managing a capital budget portfolio.
  • Experience with putting together and routing capital projects for approval through all stages of the approval process.
  • Familiarity with applicable engineering codes/standards and their application.
  • A working knowledge of SAP or other CMMS software as well as the Management of Change process is required.
  • Knowledge of project management process, equipment, and materials is preferred.
  • The successful candidate shall have developed strong estimating skills and will have worked with contractors, vendors and purchasing to accomplish the work scope.
  • Strong teamwork, results orientation and organizational skills are a must.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of individuals/employees is required.
  • The individual should also be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering degree and project management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of project management process, equipment, and materials is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage department consisting of 3-5 LYB project managers (supplemented with contractors as needed), 2 LYB construction coordinators, and contract engineering and design staff
  • Develop and maintain the STxP Capital Long Range Plan
  • Utilize and ensure compliance with the company’s Project Management Process
  • Facilitate the long range planning process: engage site leadership on strategic objectives, perform quality reviews on project input forms, obtain estimates, and manage changes throughout the budget cycle
  • Provide leadership with routine updates on Capital project execution including HSE, cost, and schedule
  • Perform and document stage gate reviews on all projects
  • Track and communicate KPI’s for the projects organization and utilize them to identify and implement improvement opportunities needed to increase the performance of the group
  • Develop individual training plans, provide mentoring, coaching, and development, and ensure professional growth of LYB employees
