The Manager, Business Insights will lead ALO’s data strategy and mature how the organization leverages data, reporting, analytics, and AI‑enabled insights to drive business decisions. This leader will introduce governance, prioritize demand, and create consistency across all reporting and analytics efforts within ALO. This role directly leads the ALO Data & Reporting team, ensuring scalable processes, clear prioritization, and excellence in execution. The manager will also partner closely with Shared Services and Enterprise Data Governance teams to establish aligned standards, tools, and data definitions. As a Manager, Business Insights, you’ll be responsible for leading a team to obtain knowledge and insights from data, manipulate internal and external data through R/SAS/SQL/Python, perform diagnostic and inferential analysis, investigate complex business concerns using data, statistical techniques, analysis or visualization techniques, and communicate key findings to business partners. Requirements

  • Strong experience leading analytics, business intelligence, or data strategy initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with data tools, dashboards, or analytics environments.
  • Ability to lead highly technical teams and translate complex data into business value.
  • Experience building governance, standards, or scalable reporting frameworks.
  • Strong communication, prioritization, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information, business, mathematics, or related field with post-graduate studies preferred.
  • Typically, eight or more years of experience in data extraction, data manipulation, data visualization, financial and operational measurement.
  • Detailed experience with data-extraction problem solving; working with large structured and unstructured data sets and databases to create understandable and relevant analysis.
  • Leadership (direct or indirect) experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of business policies and procedures, customer service concepts and practices.
  • Working knowledge to build and maintain ad hoc and standard analysis, including data visualization and business intelligence tools.
  • Validated understanding of and working knowledge to conduct extraction of data for functional and operational measurement.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with others.
  • Ability to understand business processes and the data produced by them.
  • Ability to understand functional and operational measurement needs, analyze data requests and interpret business problems into solutions.
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints.
  • Capable of developing distinctive and understandable data visualizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Snowflake, Dataiku, Power BI, and Power Apps.
  • Background in AI implementation or leveraging AI within business processes.
  • Prior experience in insurance, annuities, or life operations (not required due to SME strength on team).
  • Professional experience in insurance, financial services or a related industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead ALO’s Data & Insights Strategy: Establish long-term strategy for data utilization, analytics capabilities, dashboards, automation, and insight generation.
  • Create Governance & Prioritization Models: Introduce intake processes, project governance, and alignment mechanisms to ensure work ties directly to ALO and enterprise strategy.
  • Partner Cross-Functionally: Represent ALO with Shared Services, Data Governance, and enterprise analytics groups to ensure consistency in processes, terminology, and standards.
  • Team Leadership: Provide people leadership to 3 direct reports. Foster growth, strategic thinking, and consistent delivery across the team.
  • Operate as a Player-Coach: While this is primarily a strategic role, candidates must have sufficient hands-on data/analytics proficiency to guide work and build credibility with senior technical talent.
  • Drive Innovation in Data & AI: Leverage emerging tools, including AI/ML, to improve decision-making, efficiency, and process outcomes.
  • Builds and maintains relationships and serves as a trusted business advisor to clients, internal risk partners and other stakeholders.
  • Creates partnerships across the company to ensure methodologies and assumptions used are aligned with corporate practices.
  • Responsible for crafting, packaging, and communicating actionable insights to business partners.
  • Ensures that insights developed by team are positioned to be action oriented.
  • Leads team that participates in the development of the scope, risk/control matrix, project timelines and assignments.
  • Plans and manages execution of team's work. Work may span more than one project or focus area.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop financial and operational strategies for business unit.
  • Consults with business partners to understand, align and deliver work that supports business objectives and priorities.
  • Leverages statistical inferencing when conducting analysis.
  • Communicates significance in findings when working with business partners
  • Leads associates in analysis preparation and use of information systems, software, and related sources of information.
  • Trains team-members on proper ways to conduct analysis.
  • May support the research, analysis, and presentation of information by monitoring external sources, creating custom reports, compiling, and summarizing information, producing supporting documentation and exhibits and verification of information received from external sources.
  • Manages special projects and serves as data/technical lead and contact for immediate team members and associates from other areas of the company.
  • Responsible for associate management, including performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow, and organizational planning, hiring and placement and disciplinary actions.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for business areas in the intake and prioritization of data, reporting, analysis, and advanced statistical work.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
