About The Position

The Business Development Manager will oversee the strategic business development initiatives for the Medical Center(s) and greater market. The Manager is responsible for developing relationships and growing partnerships in the applicable communities, growing regional awareness of our medical centers and allied UH health care services, and positioning UH as the regional leader and partner for population health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in healthcare discipline, marketing, communications, or other related field.
  • 3+ years management experience in healthcare (i.e. hospital, medical practice) setting or business development role.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the general management of all community outreach programs and services, including community relations, wellness/prevention programs, women’s health initiatives, geriatrics, community education, and related functions as assigned.
  • Responsible for strategic development of relationships and partnerships with regional business to grow volumes, revenues, and market share.
  • Plans, develops, and implements outreach programs in primary and secondary service areas to support integration of established UH programs and hospitals’ respective services in order to meet market needs and align with the strategic plans for the medical centers.
  • Responsible for overseeing grants that support outreach programs and/or efforts (writing, tracking of funds, summary progress reports, etc.).
  • Represents hospital leadership at service organizations, community and civic events.
  • Responsible for all Community Benefit (CB) initiatives for the Medical Center(s).
  • Plans and oversees CB initiatives including community events, partnerships with regional schools, senior centers, etc.
  • Collaborates with key employees to coordinate, compile and report mandatory CB data through CBISA (or appropriate channels) on an annual basis.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Physician Services to provide a Medical Center orientation for new physicians to facilitate alignment with hospital-based and allied UH services and with the communities they will serve in order rapidly facilitate system integration.
  • Responsible for strategic development of relationships and partnerships with independent physicians in the market to enhance patient access to the UH system, promote population health initiatives and provide high quality continuum of care.
  • Coordinate with UHPS and independent medical practice office managers and providers to strengthen the partnerships and alignment with UH entities.
  • Coordinate events and meetings to forge relationships between physicians of different specialties to foster enhanced patient care within the market.
  • Maintains effective communication with members of the UH medical staff.
  • Assists the management team in the development of departmental or divisional planning and marketing efforts, the identification of new business opportunities and potential market expansion.
  • Promotes effective and proactive programs for performance improvement.
  • Collaborations with department directors to identify, develop and implement new services consistent with hospital goals and objectives and the needs of the local community.
  • Monitors market to evaluate and provide senior leadership opportunities for business development and potential encroachment of completion on market share area.
  • Collaborates with Medical Center(s) Chief Operating Officer to coordinate the development of the hospital’s strategic planning process.
  • Ensures the regular update and maintenance of the Strategic Business Plan as needed for use as needed for strategic decision-making by the hospital.
  • Serves as the hospital liaison with planning consultants used as needed in the development of the Strategic Plan.
  • Maintains open and effective communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders (i.e. Marketing, Office of Clinical Integration, Management Team, Office of Physician Services, etc.) to ensure coordinated work processes, shared expertise and effective execution of the market business plan.
  • Effectively manages and develops subordinate staff per UH guidelines.
  • Effectively establishes and manages budget in all areas of responsibility.
  • Adheres to all UH policies and procedures and completes mandatory education and health requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory, legal and accreditation requirements in areas of responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
