About The Position

The Manager, Business Development, Cell & Gene Therapy (CGT) drives growth for the CGT Technologies portfolio by leading opportunity qualification and supporting execution of partnerships and commercial agreements from intake through diligence, internal alignment, and contracting. Reporting to the Senior Director, this role partners closely with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, R&D, Legal, and Operations to advance a prioritized BD pipeline, develop deal materials and business cases, negotiate, close, and track small to mid-size deals, and deliver clear updates to leadership. Success is measured by pipeline progression, timely diligence execution, quality of business recommendations, deal closures and tracking, and effective cross-functional alignment. Position may be worked remotely, with willingness and ability to travel up to 30% (domestic & international), including regular trips to our U.S. headquarters in Lake Zurich, IL, to engage with the cross-functional teams. Preference will be given to candidates who live in the eastern or central time zones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, Engineering, or related field required
  • 8+ years of experience in sales, business development, project management, consulting, or a related role within the healthcare, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Understanding and experience with contracting and negotiating fundamentals, including ability to support development of term sheets, MSA/SOW, and pricing/discounting models
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and CRM systems.
  • Disciplined in CRM beyond data entry, with ability to input and extract information to support business development activities
  • Ability to travel up to 20–30% domestically and internationally based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize new small to mid-size business opportunities, including collaborations with biotech, pharma, academic institutions, and CDMOs
  • Support the development and structuring of agreements (development, pricing/supply, etc.) with ownership of small/mid-size and clearly-bounded deals
  • Accountable for monitoring deal progression and tracking of deliverables and alignment to deal
  • Prepare and support negotiation processes by preparing drafts, gathering inputs, and coordinating internal reviews with Legal and other stakeholders within guidelines
  • Can make independent recommendations for negotiating deals based on diligence completed and has ability to autonomously make business decisions
  • Assist in preparing materials for partnership discussions, including presentations, briefing documents, and financial/strategic analyses.
  • Manage and track progress of key BD initiatives, ensuring alignment across R&D, Product Management, Marketing, and Commercial teams.
  • Facilitate project meetings, set agendas, document discussions, and track action items to completion.
  • Assist in ensuring BD activities align with organizational objectives and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop high-quality presentations and reports to support leadership communication, business reviews, and decision-making.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive developments; synthesize insights into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Prepare regular updates for senior leadership on BD pipeline status, project progress, risks, and opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of opportunities, contacts, and activities within Salesforce CRM.
