About The Position

The Manager of Building Maintenance oversees the operations of the department that provides painting, carpentry and cabinetry, pest control, roofing, flooring, and plastering services for University facilities, buildings, and equipment. Drives from site to site. Manages all functions related to the operation and production of high-quality building maintenance activities at The University of Alabama campus. Operates at a departmental level to provide operational effectiveness and increase productivity of the Building Maintenance staff. Implements various projects related to the repair, maintenance, and installation of buildings and campus equipment. Manages the Building Maintenance Assistant Managers and ensures that the University manages its facilities as efficiently and effectively as possible. Makes recommendations and estimates for deferred maintenance projects for the Facilities and Grounds department. Monitors and makes recommendations concerning activities for the Building Maintenance department related to employee performance, personnel staffing, and sequencing of projects. Reviews building and equipment specifications as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of building maintenance experience; OR associate's degree and six (6) years of building maintenance experience; OR bachelor's degree and four (4) years of building maintenance experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of building maintenance experience.
  • Must have valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
  • Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products and enterprise management systems and the ability to effectively use these for purposes of managing personnel, budgets and inventories; purchasing; communicating; and reporting.
  • Ability to read, interpret and identify problems with blueprints, schematics and plans.
  • Ability to perform inspections.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, building science, construction management, or business management and six (6) years of facilities maintenance experience in higher education; OR high school diploma and ten (10) years of facilities maintenance management experience in higher education.
  • CEFP certification or similar credential from facilities maintenance industry.
  • Four (4) years of experience in pest control management and services.
