The Manager Back of House Operations oversees the daily administrative and operational functions related to cleaning and custodial services for all Back of House areas at Beacon Theatre, part of Madison Square Garden’s portfolio. This role ensures all spaces are consistently maintained to company standards and operationally ready for all events. The position reports directly to the AGM – Beacon Theatre Operations and partners closely with the Senior Director – Back of House Operations.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum 3-5 years’ management experience, and knowledge of events, sports, theatre operations, within an entertainment venue
  • Previous supervisory experience in Custodial/Housekeeping with an emphasis on administration preferred.
  • Candidates who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
  • Experience managing union staff preferred.
  • Ability to manage cross functional teams and building relationships is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to mobilize key stakeholders, and engage with all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to engage and develop collaborative relationships and influence within team and across functions, even without direct reporting relationship.
  • Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship with a diverse group.
  • Comfortable with managing conflict and responding to customer problems with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to demonstrate success in managing multiple tasks while under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to hold team accountable for outcomes and monitor performance.
  • Successful track record of measuring improvements in customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring and developing staff to perform at high levels.
  • Ability to navigate internal organization/process.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Extensive walking, bending, lifting (25-50 lbs.) and office work (sitting) is essential to this role.
  • Must be willing to travel to other locations as needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, have split days off, work weekends and holidays in a 24-hour, 7 day a week environment

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily administration of the Custodial department including part time event-based staff, seasonal staff, and full time Maintenance staff
  • Perform in-event management oversight of Beacon Theatre and Radio City staff and events as Manager On Duty (MOD)
  • Work directly with the Employee Staff Services Department for purposes of payroll submission and scheduling.
  • Orchestrate daily inside labor activities to foster a seamless and cooperative delivery of service while minimizing internal conflict.
  • Highly responsive to emergencies in a fast paced, time sensitive environment.
  • Generate staff schedules and approve staffing budgets for Beacon Theatre events, maintaining awareness of annual operations budget.
  • Manage the cleaning material and supply inventory as well as the inventory for all restroom consumables. Track spending throughout the year.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing preventive maintenance programs for the facility and all building related cleaning equipment. Engage outside vendors as necessary to make necessary repairs or complete service.
  • Work closely with other departments including Event Production, Guest Services, Security, Food & Merchandise, and Madison Square Garden Entertainment to coordinate repairs and maintenance on systems to avoid impact to events.

  • Responsible for maintaining a first-class operation, delivering superior service to internal and external clients. Attend necessary training to assure the utilization of the latest and most efficient cleaning materials and equipment
  • At the direction of the AGM – Beacon Theatre Operations and Senior Director – Back of House Operations, work in collaboration to ensure all areas within the Arena are cleaned and staffed appropriately.
  • Assist in coordination of Capital Projects as the venue representative
  • Train and develop staff. As well as recommend and enforce disciplinary actions as necessary.
