Role summary: The Manager, Automation Engineering leads the design, integration, and continuous improvement of automation systems within supply chain operations. This role leverages data analysis and advanced analytics to influence strategic decisions and optimize process flows. The manager oversees project planning and execution, collaborates cross-functionally to implement technology solutions, and drives operational excellence through effective communication and stakeholder engagement. By fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency, this position supports business objectives while ensuring compliance with engineering and financial standards. About the team: Our team leads large-scale automation projects across Walmart’s supply chain, directly shaping the next generation of distribution centers. We leverage advanced analytics and data analysis to drive continuous improvement and optimize operational efficiency. Collaborating cross-functionally, the team manages project execution from planning through implementation, ensuring seamless integration of automation technologies. Focused on innovation and process enhancement, we apply project management principles to deliver impactful solutions that support Walmart’s strategic goals. The role is based in Red Bluff, CA and is expected to travel up to 50% of the time.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence effectively – confidence, credibility, and concise, organized thoughts
  • The ability to collaborate while establishing credibility, analyzing stakeholder needs, and responding effectively
  • Demonstratable business acumen and ownership of project activity
  • Defining vision and strategies for automation technologies identifying opportunities, building business cases, approving objectives
  • Leading in design of progressing new automation technologies, hardening technologies to implement across the network
  • Developing and implementing large-scale automation technology for brownfield sites to enhance operational efficiencies, OEE, and increase productivity
  • Implementing efficiencies and best practices in Automation Engineering to help speed the delivery and quality of products
  • Establishing, influencing, and managing high-visibility key supplier relationships
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and 2 years’ experience in engineering, supply chain, or related area.
  • 4 years’ experience in engineering, supply chain, or related area.

  • Assist in developing business cases and evaluating financial impacts of automation projects.
  • Mentor team members and support talent development within the automation engineering function.
