About The Position

Walmart's Accelerated Pickup & Delivery (APD) is redefining convenience by leveraging automation and intelligent systems to serve our customers faster than ever. As the Manager, Automation Engineering, you will be the tactical engine behind our assortment vision to turn high-level strategy into actionable product requirements and successful launches.In this role, you will dive deep into data, define detailed feature specifications, and partner with engineering and data science teams to build the systems that determine what we fulfill in our automated solutions. You will be the bridge between strategic intent and technical execution, ensuring that our assortment algorithms and tools deliver maximum value to the business and our customers.

Requirements

  • Strong Technical Fluency: You aren't a developer, but you can read an API spec, understand database schema, and hold your own in architectural discussions.
  • Advanced SQL Skills: You can pull your own data without waiting for an analyst. You're comfortable with joins, window functions, and complex aggregations.
  • Execution Focus: You have a proven track record of shipping products. You know how to break down big problems into small, shippable increments.
  • Analytical Mindset: You make decisions based on data, not gut feeling. You can model scenarios in Excel/Sheets and communicate findings clearly
  • A proactive and innovative mindset, with a continuous focus on improving processes and solving complex problems.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and 2 years’ experience in engineering, supply chain, or related area.
  • Option 2: 4 years’ experience in engineering, supply chain, or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Executing complex SQL queries to analyze current assortment performance and identify gaps.
  • Validate hypotheses for new AI/ML models by analyzing historical sales, inventory, and substitution data.
  • Monitor post-launch metrics to measure the success of new features and identify areas for iteration.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Engineering and Data Science teams, clarifying requirements and unblocking technical hurdles.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising stakeholders to understand their manual workflows and identify opportunities for automation.
  • Work with Store Operations to ensure assortment changes land smoothly in the field and don't disrupt store processes.
