As a Manager, Animal Relocation Driver you will work in the field alongside a dedicated team to participate in the relocation of more than 300,000 animals to date, making a direct and meaningful impact on the animals who need us most. Who We Are The ASPCA’s Animal Relocation department is tasked with providing effective, lifesaving, animal relocation and transport. Using the theories of supply and demand, relocation saves lives by transporting animals from under-resourced shelters in areas of oversupply where the chance of adoption is slim, to shelters where the chances of adoption are greater. What You’ll Do The primary responsibility of the Manager, Animal Relocation Driver is to safely and humanely transport dogs and cats in custom built, climate-controlled vehicles, on a weekly basis. The Manager, Animal Relocation Driver reports directly to the Senior Manager, Animal Relocation – Performance and Engagement and has no direct reports. Where and When You’ll Work Candidates must be located within a one-hour driving radius of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (Dallas, Texas) or Boston Logan International Airport (Boston, Massachusetts). This position requires extensive travel. Must have the ability and willingness to travel as described herein, by ground and air, including some weekends and occasional holidays. Transports occur weekly and are commonly 4-6 days in length; they may require travel up to 10 or more days. Generally, managers are scheduled for at least 2 days off between transports. What You’ll Get Compensation Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future. Requirements

• Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate techniques for safe transport of animals and supplies
• Fear Free® certified, or required within 60 days of employment
• Flexible and calm under stress and during change
• Demonstrates strong communication and customer service skills
• Committed to building positive relationships with colleagues, shelters, vendors, departments
• Self-directed and able to work in a remote setting, demonstrating the highest level of performance, with minimal supervision
• Proficiency in reading and following extensive and complex SOPs
• Able to perform animal first aid, treatment, administration of medication, etc. to animals under supervision of a veterinarian
• Strong computer/smartphone skills (iPad, iPhone, Outlook, GPS Navigation) required
• Extensive air and ground travel is required.
• Travel includes multi-day trips that occur on a weekly basis, which are, on average, 4-6 days long and include some weekends and occasional holidays.
• At least 5 years of experience driving required; experience driving large vehicles such as a commercial van, box truck, bus, etc. strongly preferred
• Experience driving in all types of weather conditions, winter weather in particular, strongly preferred
• Excel physically and mentally when working in challenging conditions, including heat and snow
• Able and willing to drive approximately 650 miles over the course of a day
• Able to push, pull and lift equipment and crates up to 50 pounds
• Able to provide a valid driver’s license upon hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history
• Able to obtain and provide a Department of Transportation Medical Certificate
• Willing and able to provide all documentation necessary to complete a Driver Qualification File pursuant to DOT and FMCSA requirements in order to drive a Commercial Motor Vehicle with a GVWR of 26,000 pounds or less.
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent professional experience required
• Minimum four (4) years of work experience
• Minimum two (2) years of professional experience working hands-on with animals that were not animals you owned; experience in animal transport or relocation, veterinary hands-on animal care, animal control or as an animal shelter staff member a plus

Responsibilities

• Safely and humanely transport dogs and cats (and occasionally other species) nation-wide, providing impeccable animal care throughout each animal’s relocation experience
• Adhere to all ASPCA animal, vehicle, and transport safety protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Skillfully utilize low-stress, "Fear Free" handling techniques to ensure a calm, compassionate environment during loading, travel, and unloading
• Drive defensively in accordance with all traffic laws and ASPCA safety standards, ensuring smooth vehicle operation in all weather conditions to prevent animal injury or distress
• Maintain the cleanliness of vehicles, crates, and supplies to prevent disease transmission and extend the lifespan of ASPCA assets
• Support the Senior Operations Manager with regular maintenance appointments and audits to proactively ensure fleet readiness.
• With support and guidance from the management team, be prepared to manage emergencies and accidents including vehicle performance problems, sick or symptomatic animals (under the direction of a veterinarian), etc.
• Travel on chartered flights as a courier, monitoring and managing animals being relocated by air
• Travel weekly via commercial flights and custom-built transport vehicles
• Partner with the Senior Manager – Operations to monitor, report and maintain an extensive inventory of supplies, crates and equipment spread across multiple storage facilities
• Assume financial accountability for an ASPCA credit card and adhere to ASPCA expense and travel policies; complete monthly expense reports
• Complete all forms, reports, data collection and other activities on-time and with the highest degree of accuracy
• Support, develop, or implement programmatic advancements and any other department activities which will contribute to the advancement and success of the team and the ASPCA, as identified by supervisor
• Serve as a frontline ambassador of the ASPCA and a liaison between source and destination shelter and rescue partners and departments within the ASPCA
• Serve as a model for the Flex Workforce, demonstrating strong performance, collaboration, and adherence to SOPs
• Train and mentor other drivers in order to elevate the overall performance of the team
• Solicit stories and photos from transport; when assigned, be prepared to be filmed or provide interviews
• Fully engage in the self-performance management process including annual reviews, regular feedback sessions, required compliance training, and goal setting
• Participate in and model a healthy work culture amongst colleagues
