About The Position

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for owning the accounts payable function to ensure timely, accurate, and well-controlled payments to vendors. This role is vital to keeping the company’s day-to-day AP operations running smoothly while continuously improving scalability, speed, and accuracy in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. The AP Manager translates functional plans into operational execution, exercises independent judgment on complex issues, and partners cross-functionally to drive strong stakeholder outcomes, internal controls, and process innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, including 3+ years of people/team management experience.
  • Typically, 5–6+ years of relevant experience (renewable, construction or high volume of purchase orders), including progressively increased scope in AP operations and/or ownership of AP programs/workstreams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through accountability and influence; with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to develop and mentor a team.
  • Strong knowledge of AP operations and controls and understanding of AP’s impact on monthly/quarterly/annual financials.
  • Experience in an ERP system such as Sage Intacct (or similar); high comfort operating across interconnected systems.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, delegate (where applicable), and drive results under competing deadlines in a high-volume environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong written/verbal communication skills across stakeholder levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization.
  • Proactive and creative problem-solving skills, a with the ability to ask pointed questions to ensure clarity and consistency across business practices.
  • High proficiency in Office 365 tools, particularly Excel.
  • Must have a “roll up your sleeves and let’s get the job done right” attitude, with integrity, credibility, and fiduciary responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Own AP outcomes and operational performance across invoice intake, matching, coding, approvals, and payment processing to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and strong internal controls.
  • Oversee full cycle accounts payable for solar construction and development projects, including review of invoice entries for proper coding/classification and review of vendor setup for accuracy/completeness.
  • Drive weekly payment execution, including preparation/review of weekly payment reporting and ensuring appropriate approvals and inclusion of items requiring payment.
  • Guide the AP team’s weekly priorities and throughput, including coaching, removing blockers, creating clarity on standards, and ensuring consistent quality of work. (Leadership may be demonstrated through influence and accountability, not only headcount.)
  • Maintain excellent internal and external relationships, resolving escalated vendor and stakeholder issues quickly and professionally while protecting controls and policy adherence.
  • Own AP controls, processes, and continuous improvement, reflecting on AP processes that can be enhanced to create efficiencies and implementing improvements/automation where appropriate.
  • Support close and audit readiness, including select period-end reconciliations/entries related to AP, participating in annual audit, and ensuring AP documentation is complete and organized.
  • Own or oversee annual 1099 process to ensure timely, accurate completion and compliance.
  • Partner with Finance/Project teams on AP-adjacent deliverables (e.g., debt draw requests where applicable), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Systems mindset: partner on tools and integrations impacting AP (ERP/AP platforms/expense tools), ensuring controls and data flow support scalable execution.
  • Manage process documentation for AP workflows, controls, and training materials to support onboarding, consistency, and audit readiness
