About The Position

Performs highly professional tasks in the area of accounting and financial reporting. Requires an in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and practices within a specific area of higher education accounting in accordance with FASB and GASB standards. Duties encompass management of the TWU Foundation and the Collegiate Housing Foundation (public-private partnership project) to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial accounting data. Work is substantially complex and varied. Independent thought and judgement is required as well as personal initiative in completing required and assigned tasks. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Controller through normal review of procedures and other internal controls. Performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible work experience in accounting, preferably in a Texas higher education institution.
  • Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.
  • Mastery of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to include pronouncements of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).
  • Working knowledge of state law pertaining to financial management of public universities.
  • Working knowledge of the operation and administration of TWU’s Oracle EBS financial system.
  • Ability to manage tasks effectively in an often fast paced work environment with heavy focus on proficiency, accuracy and quality customer service.
  • Ability to analyze accounting systems for proper controls and reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to prepare complex financial statements and other financial reports.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers and subordinates.
  • Strong customer service orientation for provision of accounting services.
  • Ability to analyze and update established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations required for preparing and presenting financial reports.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate accounting and financial records for the Collegiate Housing Foundation project utilizing the University accounting system and QuickBooks.
  • Prepares required financial reports as outlined in the Collegiate Housing Foundation contract. This includes collaborating with the Housing and Student Life staff to prepare required financial reports and annual budget.
  • Serves as the liaison with housing and facilities departments to ensure compliance with the Collegiate Housing Foundation management agreement and trust indenture.
  • Manages the preparation of the annual Collegiate Housing Foundation financial audit.
  • Responsible for the accounting and financial reporting operations for the TWU Foundation.
  • Serves as the liaison with the TWU Foundation to ensure compliance.
  • Manages the preparation of TWU Foundation annual financial report.
  • Manages the preparation of the annual TWU Foundation financial audit.
  • Prepares the Endowment Unitization calculations for TWU Endowments quarterly and TWU Foundation Endowments monthly.
  • Manages preparation of TWU Foundation Interim Financial Reports.
  • Manages preparation of TWU Foundation Split-Interest Trust Information Returns (IRS Form 5227), Miscellaneous Income (IRS Form 1099R), Exempt Organization Return (IRS Form 990) and other tax returns and mandatory filings required for statutory compliance.
  • Prepares the NACUBO Commonfund Endowment Study.
  • Performs general ledger account maintenance including preparing and posting journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Audits accounts for accuracy and compliance with University, State and Federal entities.
  • Assists in the compilation and reporting of information in the annual financial report for TWU.
  • Develops and maintains financial records.
  • Compiles and analyzes data.
  • Collaborates in fulfillment of ad hoc reporting requirements.
  • Collaborates in management of TWU’s financial accounting system, including decisions regarding the chart of accounts and both regular and special accounting processes.
  • Collaborates in fulfilling internal requests for financial information.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
