About The Position

Performs duties necessary to plan, implement, and manage campus-wide support services for students with disabilities; works with faculty and other instructional personnel regarding accommodations; administers department budget; monitors and advises faculty, staff, and administration of the College’s mandated compliance to disability-related state and federal laws (Americans with Disabilities Act – ADA, Rehabilitation Act, Section 504); liaison with College Compliance Director; provides training and consultative services to faculty, staff, students, and the community; provides accommodations as necessary for college events/activities; performs normal supervisory functions.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree and over three (3) years of relevant full-time experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the campus office process for the establishment of student accommodations; follows guidelines and facilitates review of disability documentation in order to determine appropriate accommodations; ensures compliance with state/federal statutes and institutional regulations; collaborates with students in the development of accommodations plans, effective use of accommodations, and appropriate advocacy to minimize impact of their disability in a post-secondary setting; develops notification to instructors of accommodation needs of students with disabilities.
  • Provides information, guidance, and referral to students working with the disability support services office on topics including academic advising, program planning, career development, financial aid, registration, and graduation requirements.
  • Facilitates problem solving/conflict resolution regarding the provisions of accommodations or disability-related issues with faculty, staff and students.
  • Provides training to faculty, staff, students, and the community to ensure equal access to the College’s programs, activities, and services.
  • Works with faculty and other instructional personnel regarding accommodations and essential course components to strengthen equal access to instruction for persons with disabilities.
  • Provides or recommends student, faculty, and staff development training.
  • Documents the college’s compliance to state/federal laws through a centralized electronic record system which includes individual, active and inactive student files, confidential documentation of disabilities, and record of provision of accommodations.
  • Assists in the preparation of responses to Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and Human Rights Commission (HRC) investigations and other legal processes regarding the College’s provision of equal access.
  • Analyzes trends and interpretations of state/federal regulations in disability compliance that effect institutional policy; provides recommendations to the Coordinator of Assistive Technology regarding changes and purchase of appropriate adaptive equipment in compliance with state/federal regulations.
  • Performs normal supervisory duties.
  • Collaborates with and/or may supervise the Coordinator of Deaf Services and the Coordinator of Assistive Technology to provide interpreters, alternative format of print material, and/or assistive technology.
  • Coordinates the provision of support personnel such as note-takers, readers, and writers; and the scheduling of rooms.
  • Collaborates with the Assessment Center regarding testing accommodations.
  • Collaborates with facilities, academic departments, purchasing regarding the acquisition of accessible furniture and equipment.
  • Oversees department budget.
  • Collaborates with the Student Affairs Budget Manager and the Coordinators of Deaf Services or Assistive Technology in the development of the district budgets for these services.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
