The Opportunity In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. The Contract Specialist will be responsible for managing and renegotiating contracts for Durable Medical Equipment (DME) suppliers and Independent Diagnostic Testing Facilities (IDTF). This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, optimizes contractual terms, and maintains strong relationships with providers. The position also oversees the creation and administration of Letters of Agreement (LOAs) to support operational and financial objectives.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivliant, or 3+ years of experience in managed care, payer relations, or healthcare sales, preferably in DME or IDTF.
  • Strong understanding of payer contracting, reimbursement methodologies, and healthcare regulations.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM and contract management systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Medicare Advantage, Medicaid MCOs, and commercial payers to obtain LOAs.
  • Familiarity with HCPCS coding and billing practices for DME and diagnostic services.
  • Ability to interpret and explain clinical documentation to payers.

Responsibilities

  • Contract Management & Renegotiation Review, analyze, and renegotiate DME and IDTF contracts to align with organizational goals and market standards.
  • Ensure all agreements comply with federal, state, and payer regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and improved service delivery through contract optimization.
  • Letters of Agreement (LOAs) Draft, review, and execute LOAs for special arrangements or exceptions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for non-contracted DME and IDTF providers to resolve LOA billing and payment issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely approvals.
  • Compliance & Reporting Monitor adherence to contractual obligations and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare reports on contract performance, renegotiation outcomes, and financial impact.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with legal, finance, and operations teams to ensure alignment on contract terms and business objectives.
  • Support internal stakeholders with contract interpretation and guidance.
  • Market Intelligence Monitor payer policies, reimbursement trends, and regulatory changes affecting DME and IDTF services.
  • Share insights with leadership to inform contracting strategies and payer engagement.
