About The Position

The Mammography/X-Ray Technologist prepares patients for imaging in the X-Ray Department. This role involves performing radiographic procedures as prescribed by a physician, operating DR equipment, and determining proper techniques through the selection of voltage, current, and exposure time. The technologist is responsible for positioning patients for proper views, instructing them on physiological requirements, and acquiring their medical history. The position also includes front desk duties such as checking in patients, scheduling walk-in x-rays, and collecting payments when necessary. The technologist must comply with infection control procedures, prevent unnecessary radiation exposure, and communicate compassionately and accurately with patients. Effective use of system applications for patient workflow and general housekeeping tasks like laundry and stocking supplies are also part of the role. Attendance at meetings and training sessions, which may occasionally be outside regular working hours, is required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training.
  • Must hold a current ARRT certificate and if doing mammography must be mammography certified.
  • Must continue to obtain the recommended amount of Continuing Educations Credits each year for your certifications.
  • Continuing education in accordance of the ARRT, ACR, and State of Michigan.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to learn and perform front desk check in duties and responsibilities, checking in patients, scheduling walk-in x-rays, and collecting payment when necessary.
  • Performs radiographic procedures as prescribed by a physician.
  • Operates DR equipment.
  • Determines proper technique through the selection of voltage, current, and exposure time.
  • Positions patients for the proper view of the affected area.
  • Instructs patients as to the proper physiological requirements for the procedure.
  • Acquires patient medical history.
  • Complies with infection control procedures.
  • Prevent unnecessary radiation exposure both to themselves and to the patient.
  • Communicate compassionately and accurately to the patient to explain what they are about to experience.
  • Effective use of system applications to perform patient workflow.
  • Housekeeping items including but not limited to laundry, stocking of supplies, etc.
  • Attendance at meetings and training sessions may be required. These sessions could occasionally be scheduled outside of your regular working hours to accommodate business needs and training opportunities.
