About The Position

Mammography Technologists are responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation and multi-frequency sound waves for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes. A mammographer performs breast imaging procedures and acquires and analyzes data, including mammographic and sonographic images needed for diagnosis, at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Mammography Technologists independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of mammographic and sonographic breast imaging procedures. Mammography Technologists prepare, administer and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Requirements

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) required upon hire. New graduates must obtain ARRT-R registry prior to first day of employment.
  • Specialty: Certification by the ARRT in Mammography must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Education: Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Radiologic Technology (Required)
  • Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body
  • Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Skills: Communication, Diagnostic Imaging, Medical Equipment Management (Mem), Preceptor Skills, Radiation Safety, Radiology, Working Independently

Responsibilities

  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Imaging pathologic breast specimens as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Performing breast ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Performing mammographic procedures per facility policy or as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Performing or assisting with clinical breast examination.
