About The Position

Are you creative, tech-curious, and enjoy helping others? The Sam’s Lab Makerspace Assistant supports library patrons as they explore hands-on projects using tools like 3D printers, sewing machines, laser cutters, and design software. This entry-level position focuses on providing great customer service, assisting with equipment use, and helping keep the makerspace safe, clean, and welcoming. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 1 year of related experience, including maker and technology experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Customer service experience
  • Available to work evenings and weekends is required as part of the regular schedule
  • Enjoy active work that includes walking, standing, bending, stretching, and lifting at work

Nice To Haves

  • Some College education is preferred
  • Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are bilingual in English and proficient in Polish, Spanish or any of the other languages spoken by patrons we are happy to serve

Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons with varying levels of technical abilities in using Sam’s Lab makerspace equipment such as sewing machines, laser cutter, 3D printers, vinyl cutters and more
  • Help ensure the Library remains a Safe, Respectful, and Responsible space by enforcing our Patron Behavior Guide with professionalism and empathy
  • Follow the Patron Experience Guidelines by providing GREAT customer service
  • Troubleshoot equipment and ensure equipment is working correctly for a seamless experience. Open IT ticket for network issues.
  • Refer and schedule patrons for one-on-one appointments
  • Ensure equipment and tools are safely used and maintain a hazard-free environment
  • Keep Sam’s Lab Makerspace clean, organized and tidy
  • Available to work evenings and weekends is required as part of the regular schedule
  • Enjoy active work that includes walking, standing, bending, stretching, and lifting at work
