About The Position

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will play a pivotal role in advancing the missions of Galvanize USA, a 501(c)(3) public charity, and Galvanize Action, a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. This role is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors and prospects, while ensuring compliance with all relevant IRS regulations and donor reporting requirements. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in securing transformational gifts and managing portfolios across both c3 charitable contributions and c4 advocacy investments. The candidate will have demonstrated political sophistication and sound judgment, with a deep working knowledge of state and national political landscapes, including gubernatorial, congressional, and senatorial leadership. The role requires a strong understanding of how policy, power, and influence operate at multiple levels of government, as well as familiarity with key political actors, decision-makers, and institutional dynamics shaping the national environment.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of experience in major gifts fundraising, with a proven track record of securing five- and six-figure gifts.
• Demonstrated experience fundraising for both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations, including knowledge of related IRS regulations.
• Strong understanding of donor compliance requirements, restricted/unrestricted giving, and acknowledgment processes.
• Excellent relationship-building, communication, and storytelling skills.
• Proficiency with donor databases (CRM) and standard fundraising tools.
• Ability to travel as needed (typically, 4-6 times/year)
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the US.

Responsibilities

• Donor Engagement & Relationship Management
• Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects with the capacity to give five- to six-figure gifts annually.
• Design and implement individualized strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, aligning interests with the missions of both Galvanize USA and Galvanize Action.
• Provide high-level, personalized stewardship that deepens donor trust and commitment.
• Partner with leadership and volunteers to identify and execute donor engagement opportunities and joint solicitations.
• Engages major donors with credibility and strategic sophistication, grounded in a deep understanding of state and national political dynamics, leadership, and key decision-makers shaping the national landscape.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director to strategically transfer key donor relationships, ensuring shared ownership and building organizational capacity for long-term sustainability .
• Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure all solicitations, acknowledgments, and receipts comply with IRS regulations governing 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities.
• Accurately classify gifts and pledges between c3 and c4 entities, tracking donor intent and restrictions.
• Prepare donor acknowledgments, pledge agreements, and reporting materials with precision and compliance integrity.
• Collaborate with finance and operations to reconcile contributions, campaign reporting, and audits.
• Strategic Fundraising & Collaboration
• Contribute to the design and execution of fundraising campaigns that integrate c3 and c4 strategies.
• Integrates deep political insight into fundraising strategy, collaborating effectively across teams to align donor engagement with state and national political dynamics, leadership, and key decision-makers shaping the broader landscape.
• Work closely with program and communications staff to craft compelling cases for support and donor-facing materials.
• Support leadership in identifying new opportunities to expand the donor base and strengthen long-term sustainability.
• Provide input into budgeting and revenue forecasting processes.
• Portfolio & Performance Management
• Maintain a disciplined moves management system with accurate data entry and reporting.
• Regularly evaluate portfolio activity to ensure progress toward revenue goals.
• Provide timely updates and reports for leadership and board stakeholders.
• Miscellaneous
• Stays informed on state and national political developments and actively shares knowledge and context with the team to strengthen donor pitches and deepen strategic conversations.
• All employees of Hopewell Fund are required to complete timesheets every two weeks.
• Perform other duties as needed.
