About The Position

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is the leading local hunger-relief organization in the state with locations in Milwaukee and Appleton. Founded in 1982 by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is a local and independent member of the Feeding America network. Driven by our mission to solve hunger and our vision of a hunger-free Wisconsin, we are bringing more people together around the table to collaboratively address the root causes of hunger. Together with our network partners, we serve nearly half a million food-insecure people across 35 counties in eastern Wisconsin each year. JOB PURPOSE: The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for the oversight, relationship development, and solicitation of major donors and prospects living in Eastern Wisconsin with the capacity to make $5,000+ gifts in support of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. This position manages relationships with donors and prospects, including identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

Requirements

  • Commitment to understand and support FAEW’s mission, vision, and effective actions to end food insecurity and its causes.
  • Respect for the people FAEW serves.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in a nonprofit environment, specifically with experience in personal solicitations and/or direct involvement with annual fundraising.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in securing major gift fundraising and developing strong relationships with donors.
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue-related goals.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to set own priorities and work independently while also being a part of a larger team.
  • Applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and fundraising database experience (e.g., Raiser’s Edge NXT) is preferred.
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs and willingness to be understanding and open-minded to differing opinions and views.
  • Valid WI driver’s license, good driving record, and meet state required automobile insurance minimums.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferred.
  • CFRE and membership in AFP a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a portfolio of 125 - 150 major individual donors and prospects by proactively creating and implementing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors with the capacity to make gifts of $5,000+ to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
  • Create and execute a personal fundraising plan for donors and prospects in their portfolio and refresh annually.
  • Develop customized strategies and moves management plans for donors and prospects in portfolio.
  • Incorporate planned giving asks into the overall strategy for individual donors.
  • Engage donors in meetings, with an expectation to hold 15+ donor meetings monthly in person and/or via phone/video conference.
  • Write customized proposals, presentations, and stewardship reports for major donors.
  • Plan strategy and capture notes and next steps in Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Meet regularly with the Senior Development Manager, review strategies and track progress.
  • Contribute to the development of donor solicitation and marketing materials.
  • Serve as spokesperson for the organization through public speaking, networking events, check presentations, and donor meetings.
