About The Position

Are you a dedicated Development Professional with a passion for cultivating donors in support of health and community service agencies? American Indian Health and Family Services(AIHFS), a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC) in Southwest Detroit is seeking a experienced Major Gifts Officer to join us and lead our capital campaign initiatives, ahead of the opening of our New State-Of-The Art Facility, projected to be in the Fall of 2026! AIHFS is seeking an experienced Major Gifts Officer responsible for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding individual donors capable of making major gifts to support capital campaign and future organizational growth. As this is the agency’s first major donor initiative, the MGO will play a pivotal role in building a prospect pipeline, developing donor strategies, and establishing relationship-based fundraising practices. Requirements

• 3 plus years of successful fundraising experience with demonstrated major gifts success (or related experience such as sales or relationship-driven roles).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable leading donor meetings and presentations
• Proven ability to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders, including high-net-worth individuals
• Strategic thinker with ability to build a process from the ground up; excellent organization skills with attention to details and follow-through.
• Familiarity with CRM system and donor management tools, ability to work independently within a small team environment.
• Must be self-directed.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality, handle crisis and tolerate stress professionally.
• Valid MI Chauffeur’s license; other credential or licenses must be kept current and consistent with applicable regulations.
• Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends and overnight or extended travel as necessary.
• Ability to promote an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free lifestyle.
• Ability to apply proficient understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.

• Familiarity and/or experience working with the Native American community a plus; respect for and knowledge of traditional, cultural and spiritual practices of a diverse Native American community, as well as an ability to work with other racially, culturally and ethnically diverse populations.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in community health centers or non-profit social service organization
• Previous experience leading a capital campaign (desirable but not required)
• Knowledge of donor research tools and prospecting techniques, local community ties or knowledge of the regional philanthropic landscape.

Responsibilities

• Conduct proactive research to identify major gift prospects
• Build and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects
• Create customized donor cultivation and solicitation strategies
• Develop management processes for the campaign and future fundraising efforts
• Conduct donor qualification meetings and ongoing relationship-building conversations
• Arrange and participate in cultivation events, donor briefings, tours of the clinic and one-on-one meetings
• Prepare compelling funding proposals, case statements, and briefing materials
• Manage timely acknowledgement and stewardship activities to deepen donor engagement
• Work with CEO, BOD and other staff to execute campaign solicitations
• Track donor interactions, pledges, and progress toward campaign goals
• Assist in planning small donor gatherings, recognition opportunities, and campaign communications
• Maintain accurate donor information in the CRM system
• Produce regular reports on portfolio activity, prospects, solicitations, and revenue projections
• Support development of prospect research systems, donor pipeline, and stewardship calendars
• Work closely with leadership and other key staff and partners to understand project needs, project timelines, and campaign messaging
• Serve as a visible ambassador for the organization across the community
• Attend local networking events and represent the clinic with professionalism and enthusiasm
• Attend necessary conferences and training opportunities
• Perform other duties as assigned
