About The Position

The Major Down Service Technician performs maintenance and repairs complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of rental and customer equipment and tools while using a high degree of independent judgment. This position demonstrates the ability to perform advanced inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of heavy equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Additionally, works as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieve departmental goals. The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of dirt engaging equipment, aerial, and lifting equipment.
  • Advanced diesel and gasoline engine diagnosis and repair.
  • Advanced electrical system diagnosis and repair to include knowledge and use of schematics.
  • Advanced hydraulic system diagnosis and repair to include knowledge and use of schematics.
  • Advanced A/C system diagnosis and repair.
  • The ability to utilize all available diagnostic troubleshooting and scan tools to root out cause of failure.
  • High level experience with flashing and updating ECM software and configurations.
  • The ability to remove, install, adjust and rebuild heavy equipment machine components to include engines, pumps, hyd. motors, controllers, valves, track assemblies etc.
  • Advanced experience with failure analysis on machine components.
  • Advanced quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane.
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to teach and mentor junior technicians.
  • High school/equivalent diploma or trade school diploma preferred.
  • Six years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience required.
  • Owns a large and complete assortment of appropriate hand tools and may have some specialized tools.
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climb up and down ladders.
  • Be able to safely maneuver and work underneath equipment.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.

Responsibilities

  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
  • Monitors physical requirements for work completion (facilities, tools, environmental) and communicates same on an ongoing basis to his/her supervisor.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Provides quality control/assurance inspections of completed tasks.
  • Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling.
  • Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains advanced equipment and components.
  • Plans and controls cost of repair jobs.
  • Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return.
  • Provides a significant amount of task and behavior-oriented oversight, mentoring, and training to others.
  • Maintains good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management.
  • Maintains company equipment – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance.
  • Adapts schedule to accommodate workload fluctuations and meet customer demands.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
