About The Position

The Montana Department of Corrections (DOC) is creating a safer Montana through Accountability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment. Join our team as a Maintenance Worker and play a vital role in keeping our correctional facility safe, secure, and operational. In this position, you’ll perform a variety of skilled maintenance tasks to ensure our buildings, grounds, and equipment remain in top condition. From carpentry and painting to mechanical and preventative upkeep, your work will directly support a safe environment for staff, offenders, and the community. Inspect, test, and adjust facility systems, including pumps, alarms, gauges, heating and cooling units, and electrical components. Notify licensed trades or contractors when specialized work is required. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on buildings, structures, and equipment. Maintain accurate records of work performed, including supply requests, duty logs, vehicle reports, and equipment check-outs. Contribute to a culture of safety by following proper procedures and supporting facility security standards.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in light duty construction or maintenance including preventative maintenance.
  • Must have and maintain a Montana driver’s license in good standing.
  • Ability to obtain a low-pressure boiler license within one year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of basic blueprint drawing or reading is preferred.
