About The Position

The City of Pierre seeks an enthusiastic individual to join our team in making Pierre one of the best places to live, work, and visit. This position is responsible for manual labor and operating street sweepers and snow plows to maintain city streets.

Requirements

Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of South Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. A CDL is required for this position.
Must have possession of or ability to obtain a Class B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements.

Responsibilities

Operates a street sweeper to clean streets and city parking lots.
Loads trucks with sand or gravel and transports to work sites and/or landfill with front-end loader; smooths job sites with loader.
Removes snow from streets and parking lots.
Operates roller to seal city streets; fills water trucks at fire hydrants.
Provides routine maintenance of equipment by performing such duties as checking oil and fluid levels.
Patches potholes with asphalt.
Operates sanding truck and backhoe as necessary.
Performs janitorial duties and light housekeeping as necessary.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
