This Promotional Recruitment is open to current Ojai City employees. The City of Ojai is pleased to announce a promotional opportunity within the Public Works Department for the position of Maintenance Worker II . Position Overview: This role offers a chance for qualified internal candidates to advance their careers by taking on increased responsibilities in the maintenance and operations of city infrastructure. The Maintenance Worker II will assist in the supervision of field crews, perform skilled maintenance tasks, and support departmental goals for safety, efficiency, and service excellence. DEFINITION Under general supervision, to perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, repair, and installation of public works services in City buildings, facilities, streets, parks, and rights-of-way; and to maintain storm drains, traffic systems and signs, and public works equipment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Maintenance Worker II --This is the full journey level in the class series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgement and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the II level are normally filled by advancement from the I level requiring three years of experience and successful performance.

Requirements

  • Current employment with the City of Ojai in a qualifying position.
  • Demonstrated experience in public works maintenance operations.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Three years of experience as a Maintenance Worker I
  • Equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
  • Depending on the assignment, possession of or ability to obtain playground, pesticide, or herbicide certificates.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced maintenance and repair work on streets, parks, public buildings, and other city facilities.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and tools.
  • Assist in training and guiding Maintenance Worker I staff.
  • Respond to emergency calls and participate in on-call rotations.
  • May exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level staff.
  • Maintain storm drains, traffic systems and signs, and public works equipment.
  • Perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, repair, and installation of public works services in City buildings, facilities, streets, parks, and rights-of-way
