About The Position

As a hotel engineer, your job is to troubleshoot and repair hotel equipment, facilities, and systems, including HVAC and electrical. Your duties involve performing preventative maintenance, conducting regular inspections, coordinating maintenance staff, and performing houseman duties such as trash removal, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and checking the parking lot for debris. You are also responsible for diagnosing potential problems and managing within budget. Shamin Hotels, founded in 1978 by P.C. Amin and B.N. Shah, began with the purchase of a bankrupt hotel in Lumberton, North Carolina. Today, Shamin Hotels has grown to become the largest hotel owner and operator in Virginia, with a portfolio of over 70 hotels across multiple states.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, technical school and/or equivalent experience in a hotel or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance around the building such as fixing structural damage, for example, window, door, or wall repair.
  • Repair broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures.
  • Work on damaged electrical wiring when a shortage or severed wire occurs.
  • Maintain the building HVAC equipment to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.
  • Apply preventative measures to the building to reduce the risk of future problems, such as using a sealant on a flat roof.
  • Fix potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.
  • Paint the building when old paint has become faded or chipped.
  • Maintain files of Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Program phone equipment according to hotel needs.
  • Work with and train hotel maintenance staff in a variety of areas.
  • Maintain quality of appearance of interior and exterior of hotel.
  • Paint and stain walls, trim, and doors.
  • Repair wallpaper, carpet, sheetrock, and doors of the hotel.
  • Keep an orderly and well-stocked inventory of finishing supplies needed in the hotel.
  • Maintain a superior quality in the guest rooms.
  • Check operation of all guest room equipment.
  • Correct minor problems and report major problems to the General Manager.
  • Keep records of rooms completed.
  • Ensure par stocking of regularly used parts and supplies.
  • Inspect and repair minor problems in common areas.
  • Be responsible for learning emergency procedures.
  • Be responsible for safe operation of all equipment, chemicals, and lockout procedures.
  • Report to work for scheduled shifts, on time and in uniform in accordance with company policy.
  • Know and comply with all company policies and procedures pertaining to this position and its duties.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Perform houseman duties such as taking out the trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and checking the parking lot for trash.
