About The Position

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for assisting with preventative, routine, and corrective maintenance of hospital buildings, equipment, and systems. This role supports a safe, functional, and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, and staff by performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks across the facility. The technician will demonstrate Vista Health's Standards of Behavior, utilize the AIDET communication approach, comply with policies, participate in training, and support strategic initiatives. Key duties include minor repairs to patient care and transport equipment, medical gas systems, sterilizers, operating tables, plumbing, and electrical systems. The role also involves adjusting thermostats, installing orthopedic traction, hanging items, moving furniture, documenting work in a CMMS, performing snow removal, and ensuring a safe environment. Confidentiality, flexibility, adaptability, and responsiveness during emergencies are also expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • No prior experience required
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and their proper use
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and safety procedures
  • On-call and call-in availability is required
  • Travel to other Vista Health System locations may be required

  • Trade or vocational training in electricity or plumbing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate Vista Health's Standards of Behavior and consistently utilize the AIDET communication approach when interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Comply with all organizational, departmental, and regulatory policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and mandatory education.
  • Support Vista Health strategic initiatives and adapt to operational changes.
  • Utilize appropriate communication channels and chain of command.
  • Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance of buildings and equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs to patient care and transport equipment such as beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, carts, and tray tables.
  • Assist with repairs to medical gas systems, sterilizers, and operating tables.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs, including faucets, toilets, sinks, valves, piping, and fixtures.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs, including lighting, control devices, panels, dietary equipment, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Adjust thermostats and install orthopedic traction setups.
  • Hang shelves and pictures; move furniture and boxes as needed.
  • Document completed work accurately and timely using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), including work orders, preventive maintenance sheets, and activity logs.
  • Perform snow removal and other facility support duties as assigned.
  • Complete all work safely to prevent injury and maintain a safe environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and responsiveness during emergencies or special projects.
