This position is located in Palo, Iowa. Job OverviewThe Plant Duane Arnold (PDA) General Maintenance Technician oversees a broad range of facility and maintenance tasks, ensuring plant operations, equipment, and safety standards are consistently met.

Requirements

  • High School Grad/GED or equivalent experience
  • 0+ years
  • Demonstrates a high degree of dexterity and ability; learns and applies basic maintenance skills
  • Passes the Maintenance Positions Selection System (MASS) Aptitude test

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of related working experience in one or more crafts

Responsibilities

  • Performs plant laundry tasks, including collecting, surveying and operating laundry monitor, stocks, and inventories supplies
  • Operates decontamination equipment, including CO2 blaster, high-pressure washer, ultrasonic sinks, bead blaster, hydrolasers, mask washing equipment and hand decon
  • Maintains grounds, including operating lawn care and snow removal equipment
  • Serves as firewatch and confined space attendant
  • Responds to haz-mat spills
  • Maintains and accounts for HEPA vacuums and PVUs
  • Manages plant hose control
  • Segregates trash and handles asbestos removal
  • Cleans septa and moves office personnel as needed
  • Supports M&TE program and assists civil contractors/workers
  • Performs general painting and floor coating
  • Handles chemical deliveries
  • Housekeeps general plant areas, including outbuildings and cooling towers
  • Conducts minor building maintenance on non-plant equipment
  • After pre-job briefing, conducts smear surveys to check decontamination effectiveness (does not declare areas/items free of radioactive contamination)
  • Surveys and labels trash and/or laundry bags
  • Trains manlift operation, safety ladder refurbishment, monthly eyewash/shower inspection, and AHERA-accredited asbestos inspection
  • Manages daily operations of tool cribs
  • Keeps tool rooms organized, clean, and stocked to prevent production interruptions
  • Ensures tooling and machinery meet or exceed safety standards
  • Issues and receives tooling for production staff
  • Segregates damaged or worn tooling for repair/service
  • Inspects safety harnesses and rigging equipment
  • Maintains inventory of combustible and general-use chemical cabinets
  • Requisitions and acquires new tooling, expendables, shop supplies, and materials for Maintenance Departments
  • Stocks tool boards in all locations
  • Ensures proper storage and disposal of materials used in tool rooms
  • Performs personal health physical coverage and peer inspections
  • May be assigned to fire brigade as required
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
