About The Position

This is semi-skilled and sub-journey level skilled work in building, grounds and equipment maintenance.  Incumbents in this class are responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of building exteriors and interiors, power and manually-operated equipment, and grounds maintenance.  Work includes the performance of painting, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, landscaping and a small degree of electrical repair tasks.  Functional supervision may be exercised over semi-skilled and unskilled workers assisting in particular tasks.  General supervision is exercised by a skilled supervisor who reviews work in progress on a moderately frequent basis, and upon completion.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, plus two (2) years experience in the general construction or maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License: With proof of automobile insurance
  • Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
  • Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Must be a non-user of tobacco products

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years of experience in the general construction or maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and equipment.
  • Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Installs and alters playground and sports facility equipment; attaches appurtenances.
  • Performs routine maintenance on mechanical equipment; lubricates bearings, cleans and replaces filters; cleans equipment.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures; removes traps; purges drainage systems.
  • Assists in the installation and repair of air conditioning units, performs minor wiring tasks.
  • Applies paint by brush or spray gun to municipal buildings.
  • Prepares and maintains records of time and materials utilized.
  • Assist and participates in the performance of mechanical work on lawn mowers and portable pumps.
  • Maintains sprinkler systems.
  • Must effectively and positively represent the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation.
  • Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers.
