About The Position

The internship is designed for students seeking first-hand experience working in Parks and Recreation. The position is a paid internship offering a minimum of 200 hours, and the intern will gain on-the-job training in an entry-level role. The intern will be assigned a project by the Director of the department, building a plan with solutions to address any current or future outcomes.  2 Key Areas of Outdoor Pursuits are our Lake Club and Athletic Club. Lake Club: Based at the Lake Club, Mountaintop’s Outdoor Pursuits Program offers assistance and instruction for a wide variety of watersports. These include but are not limited to wake surfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, paddle boarding, tubing, and kayaking. Watersports Instructors are responsible for facilitating safe and fun instruction for all members and guests, as well as assisting the Outdoor Pursuits management team and Dock Hands with day-to-day operations. It is the goal of this program to provide members and guests with a once-in-a-lifetime outdoor recreation experience.   Athletic Club: Based at our Athletic Club, Mountaintop’s Outdoor Pursuits Program offers croquet courts, pickleball courts, dog park, playground, basketball gym, beach volleyball court, an area utilized by kids camp and other events and activities throughout the season. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to gain valuable experience in the field of Parks and Recreation in a hospitality setting. The Outdoor Pursuits department is dedicated to providing challenging and rewarding experience that will help to prepare the applicant for a successful career in Parks and Recreation. Requirements

  • North Carolina Boaters Safety Certificate
  • Red Cross First Aid & CPR Training
  • Athletic and an outdoor enthusiast.

  • Candidates need to be enrolled and actively working towards a Parks and Recreation degree program.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of Lake Glenville and ability to instruct, coach, and facilitate water sports and recreation such as wake surfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, hydrofoil, knee boarding, SUP boarding, kayaking, and canoeing.
  • Demonstrate watersports knowledge through safe and engaging instructional lessons both on water, and within Lake Club.
  • Adhere to all North Carolina State Boating Laws and Regulations.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of Club and member owned boats.
  • Responsible for opening and closing duties.
  • Daily setup and breakdown of all non-water related activities i.e., basketball, ping pong, Foosball, etc.
  • Set up and maintain sporting equipment, as necessary.
  • Keep the Lake Club clean, organized, and provide proper storage of equipment.
  • Prepare all boat and water sports equipment for reservation, or walk-ins by insuring they have gas and are cleaned and stocked.
  • Assist in fueling club boats.
  • Assist members with boat rental check out and reservations.
  • Work various hours, holidays, weekends, and long hours on feet. (Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day are required)
  • Work on the water for extended periods.
  • Ensure the highest standard of health and safety is adhered to and that guests are coached on the effective/safe use of all equipment.
  • Be outgoing and involved with the members and guests on and off the water.
  • Always maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Uphold the club’s policies and procedures both personally and with other staff.
  • Go above and beyond to provide members and guest with once in a lifetime recreation experiences.
  • Encourage members and guests to participate in water sport activities.
  • Ensure safety of all while on the grounds at the Athletic Club.
  • Ensure that all areas are clean and free of trash.
  • Responsible for opening, closing, and side duties.
  • Daily setup and breakdown of all Athletic Club related activities.
  • Work various hours, holidays, weekends, and long hours on feet. (Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day are required)
  • Work in the sun for extended periods.
  • Assist members with equipment.
  • Facilitate weekly social activities including croquet, pickleball, game days, dog walk Wednesday, etc.
  • Be an activist for wellness and sport enthusiast.
  • Knowledge and adherence to all uniform and grooming requirements, be professional in both appearance and manner at all times.
  • Have knowledge of the rules of Pickleball, Croquet, Basketball, etc.
  • You will be required to engage in and set up games for children. Must have a friendly and professional demeanor.
